Actress Amanda Seyfried said she has no intention of apologizing for comments she made about Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk shortly after his assassination in September, addressing the controversy in a newly published interview, as reported by Fox News.

Seyfried, known for roles in films such as Mean Girls, faced backlash after commenting on Instagram following Kirk’s death.

Screenshots that circulated online showed Seyfried referring to Kirk as “hateful” and sharing a post that stated, “You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating.”

In an interview with Who What Wear published Wednesday, Seyfried acknowledged the criticism but said she stood by her remarks.

“I’m not f*cking apologizing for that,” Seyfried said.

“I mean, for f*ck’s sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage, and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course. Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized — which is what people do, of course.”

Seyfried also spoke broadly about politics and public discourse during the interview, suggesting she tries to stay grounded despite political frustrations.

“It’s always hard to see people who are tricky and harmful have success — like our gorgeous president, the best possible example of that,” Seyfried said while sitting in a restaurant with her interviewer.

“It’s so weird to sit in a civilized restaurant. People are serving us food. You can’t unpack it too much, or else you’ll go f*cking insane. Like, how is the world still spinning?”

Turning Point USA responded to Seyfried’s comments through spokesperson Andrew Kolvet, who said the actress was entitled to express her views but should not be surprised by the reaction.

“Amanda Seyfried obviously knows nothing about who Charlie Kirk actually was. She’s a victim of her own algorithm and echo chamber,” Kolvet told Fox News Digital.

“But if your reaction to an innocent husband and father being assassinated in cold blood is to pile on and call him ‘hateful’ instead of offering condolences, or just remaining silent — I know wild concept — then you are the hateful one.”

Following the initial backlash in September, Seyfried posted a public statement attempting to clarify her position. In that post, she acknowledged the severity of Kirk’s killing while reiterating her broader concerns.

Amanda Seyfried won’t apologize for disparaging Charlie Kirk.

“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable,” Seyfried wrote.

“No one should have to experience this level of violence,” she added. “This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

In the caption accompanying that post, Seyfried appeared to address the controversy directly.

“I don’t want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context. Spirited discourse — isn’t that what we should be having?” she wrote.

The exchange has continued to draw attention online, highlighting the broader debate over political commentary, celebrity speech, and reactions to acts of political violence.
