Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin is facing internal criticism after deciding not to release a commissioned postmortem report analyzing the party’s performance in the 2024 election, according to multiple reports and public statements from party figures.

The DNC commissioned an extensive internal review following its losses in the 2024 cycle, including the presidential election, where Democrats were defeated despite then-Vice President Kamala Harris spending roughly $1.5 billion on her campaign.

The review was intended to examine what went wrong in the party’s election strategy, messaging, and coalition management.

However, Martin determined that the report would not be made public, nor broadly shared with donors or party activists.

Reports indicate that the decision has sparked frustration and anger among Democratic strategists, operatives, and activists who argue that suppressing the findings prevents the party from addressing its weaknesses ahead of future elections.

Democrats familiar with the process said the review was comprehensive and candid about the party’s shortcomings.

Despite that, Martin opted to withhold the report, a move that has drawn criticism from within the party itself.

According to reporting from The Hill, one insider described the party’s approach as dismissive of its own failures.

“The party has a habit of gloss[ing] things over and pretending nothing to see here,” the insider said.

“And that’s how we lose elections.”

Another prominent Democrat, strategist Jamal Simmons, also criticized the decision. Simmons said that party stakeholders should not be kept in the dark about the reasons for the 2024 loss.

He argued that volunteers, donors, and voters “deserve to know what went wrong” and that the DNC should communicate those findings rather than conceal them.

The backlash reflects broader concerns within Democratic circles about transparency and trust, particularly as the party looks toward upcoming election cycles.

Some operatives have warned that failing to confront mistakes openly could lead to repeated strategic failures.

Criticism has not been limited to party insiders.

On social media, a user who described himself as a “Lifelong Dem” expressed frustration with the decision to keep the report private.

“Hiding the 2024 autopsy report isn’t coming across like strategy, it looks like fear of hard truths,” the user wrote.

“So far the lesson we read about from 2024 is ‘we lost white men,’ that’s not analysis, that’s avoidance. Real questions are being buried, how did the free Palestine movement affect votes, coalition fractures, messaging failures, trust. You don’t fix those by suppressing evidence. You fix them by showing your work.”

Hide the Autopsy Report, Lose the Narrative

Hear me out…

At the exact moment Democrats should be drawing a clean contrast with Trump’s culture of secrecy and cover ups, the DNC is choosing opacity.

The internal disagreement highlights tensions within the party over how to respond to the 2024 election outcome.

While some party leaders have publicly pointed to specific demographic challenges, critics argue that focusing narrowly on select voter groups avoids deeper issues involving policy priorities, internal divisions, and campaign messaging.

Democratic candidate for Governor of New Hampshire Jon Kiper also weighed in on the controversy, calling on Martin to step aside.

“This is typical Democrat behavior: when things don’t go their way, they try to hide the evidence and avoid accountability,” Kiper said.

“Luckily, we’ll be here to remind them of their blunders at every opportunity.”

DNC chair Ken Martin needs to step down if he refuses to release the 2024 autopsy. If we do not know why we lost in 2024, how are we supposed to win in 2026? Hiding the truth is completely unacceptable.

The dispute comes as Democrats continue to assess their electoral position following losses at the presidential level and setbacks in other races.

While party leadership has emphasized moving forward, critics inside the party say the refusal to release the report undermines efforts to rebuild trust and refine strategy.

As of now, the DNC has not announced plans to publish the postmortem or provide a summary of its findings.

Party officials have also not clarified whether any portions of the review will be shared with donors or activists in the future.

The decision has added to ongoing debate within Democratic ranks about transparency, accountability, and whether party leadership is willing to confront uncomfortable conclusions drawn from the 2024 election.

With future campaigns already on the horizon, the internal dispute over the unreleased report continues to draw attention from both within and outside the party.
