Batya Ungar-Sargon said the President is treating Venezuela as a central point of pressure across multiple international and domestic fronts, tying the seizure of Venezuelan oil to broader objectives involving Russia, China, Iran, and U.S. border security.

Ungar-Sargon said the President views Venezuela as a strategic leverage point tied directly to the war in Ukraine, relations with China, and efforts to counter Iran.

She said the decision to seize Venezuelan oil is not isolated but instead fits into a broader strategy aimed at achieving multiple outcomes at once.

“I think the President sees Venezuela as a pressure point for a lot of different fronts that he’s fighting,” Ungar-Sargon said.

“The Russians are very upset that we’re seizing this oil. Of course, the President is trying to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. This gives him leverage there.”

Ungar-Sargon said Russia’s reaction is not the only international response driving the strategy.

She said China has also reacted negatively to the oil seizure, and she tied Venezuela’s role in funding Iran to the President’s broader national security concerns.

“The Chinese are very upset about it,” she said. “Of course, Venezuela is funding Iran, another one of our enemies.”

Ungar-Sargon contrasted the President’s priorities with what she described as Democratic concerns about international perception.

She said Democrats are focused on how U.S. actions are viewed abroad, while the President is focused on how his actions are viewed by Americans at home.

“I think Richard just kind of gave it away,” Ungar-Sargon said.

“The Democrats are very worried about how other countries see us. The President is very worried about how the forgotten men and women of this country see us.”

She said the President’s approach is rooted in meeting the goals he outlined for Americans rather than satisfying foreign critics.

“He’s very worried about achieving the goals that he set out to help Americans,” she said.

Ungar-Sargon also addressed the President’s position on drug trafficking, framing it as a national security issue rather than a conventional criminal matter.

She said the President has characterized the drugs being brought into the United States as chemical weapons and the traffickers involved as narco-terrorists.

“You know, it’s true that if these drug dealers showed up on our borders, we wouldn’t be able to shoot them summarily,” Ungar-Sargon said.

“But the President has declared these drugs that they’re trying to bring here as chemical weapons, they’re Narco terrorists.”

She said Democratic opposition to the President’s approach has political consequences, particularly when Democrats defend or downplay the threat posed by drug traffickers.

“And when the Democrats come out and white knight on behalf of these Narco terrorists, you know that is not popular,” she said.

Ungar-Sargon described the issue as one where public opinion strongly favors the President’s position, saying it is an area of political strength for him.

“This is an 8020 issue that the President knows he is very, very strong on,” she said.

She added that Democrats have offered multiple explanations for opposing the President’s actions but said those explanations ultimately lead to the same outcome.

“And again, I just have to say, Yeah, Richard, they’ve given a whole bunch of different rationales,” Ungar-Sargon said.

“They’re all good rationales. Every single one of those is achieved in the same way, and they are just applying pressure very strategically and achieving many different goals at the same time.”
