A 27-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot in the chest late Sunday night in Midtown Manhattan, according to authorities, as reported by The New York Post.

The shooting occurred in a heavily trafficked area of the city, and as of early Monday morning, no arrests had been made, and the suspect remained at large.

The New York City Police Department said the shooting took place at approximately 10:13 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 57th Street and Sixth Avenue.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police officers transported the man to Mount Sinai West in an NYPD vehicle, according to authorities. He was listed in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.

By the early hours of Monday morning, officials said his condition was critical but stable.

The shooting occurred in Midtown Manhattan, an area known for high pedestrian traffic, major office buildings, retail locations, and nearby transit hubs.

The incident took place late in the evening, a time when the area often remains active with both residents and visitors.

According to the New York City Police Department, the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.

Investigators have not released details regarding a possible motive, the events leading up to the shooting, or a description of the suspect.

Authorities confirmed that no arrests had been made in connection with the incident as of Monday morning.

Police remained on the scene for a period of time following the shooting as they worked to secure the area and begin their investigation.

The NYPD has not indicated whether surveillance footage from nearby businesses or street cameras has been reviewed, nor whether any witnesses have come forward.

The incident adds to ongoing public safety concerns in Manhattan, particularly in busy commercial corridors where violent incidents can disrupt normal activity and draw significant police response.

Officers are continuing to investigate the shooting and are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact authorities.

As the investigation continues, the NYPD has not released further updates regarding the victim’s condition beyond confirming that he remains hospitalized.

No additional details about the firearm involved or the direction in which the suspect fled have been made public.

Police have not announced any scheduled press briefings related to the case. The investigation remains active, and authorities say they are working to determine what led to the shooting and to identify the individual responsible.
