Rep. Brandon Gill said Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are moving beyond hearings and public messaging as they investigate large-scale fraud tied to open borders and mass migration, emphasizing that the goal is criminal referrals and prison sentences for those responsible.

Gill made the remarks while discussing what he described as growing recognition among Republicans of the scope of fraud uncovered through independent reporting and committee oversight.

He linked the issue directly to U.S. border policy and mass migration from unstable regions.

“Well, I think that Republicans are realizing the extent of the of the fraud and the problems with open borders and mass migration, and that includes bringing millions of people into the country from failed states like Somalia, where this type of fraud and corruption, that type of dealing with governments, is the norm whenever you bring in hundreds of 1000s or millions of people and from cultures like that,” Gill said.

“You ought to expect that same behavior to happen here in the United States. That’s exactly what we saw.”

Gill said the Oversight Committee is now focused on accountability rather than optics, stressing that its work is intended to result in real legal consequences.

“But we’re working on the Oversight Committee, and listen, the goal of what we’re doing in Congress now in the Oversight Committee is, as James Comer mentioned, is to find criminal referrals,” he said.

“It is not for show. It’s not just to show that we’re doing something. It is for people to go to jail.”

The congressman referenced investigative reporting by Nick Shirley, crediting the independent journalist with uncovering what he described as widespread and systemic fraud.

Gill noted that Shirley’s findings were produced without the legal tools available to Congress.

“What we found, what Nick Shirley found in his investigation, and remember, this is somebody who is a independent citizen reporter, is fraud on an overwhelming scale,” Gill said.

“And he didn’t have the power of subpoenas. He didn’t have the power to haul people in for depositions.”

Gill said the Oversight Committee does have those authorities and intends to use them as the investigation continues. “We do, and we’re going to do that,” he said.

“And I hope that we can find enough evidence so that people can go to jail for this.”
