Two Ohio siblings are being credited with helping save the life of their school bus driver after she suffered a medical emergency while transporting students to school earlier this month, an incident that was captured on video and later released by school officials, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred on Dec. 19 aboard a bus operated by Crestview Local Schools. According to video footage provided to ABC News 5, siblings Charlie, 14, and Catrina, 8, noticed that their bus driver was in distress and took immediate action to stop the bus and summon help.

The video shows Catrina approaching the driver after noticing something was wrong. The driver, who was having trouble breathing, shook her head to indicate she was not okay. Catrina later explained what happened next.

“I ran up and said, ‘What is wrong?’ and she pointed at her throat, and then I ran back there and got the older kids,” Catrina told the outlet.

Catrina then pulled the parking brake, stopping the bus from rolling downhill. Shortly afterward, the driver continued to shake her head and gestured toward the bus radio, signaling that emergency help was needed.

Charlie responded by going to the front of the bus and using the radio to call for assistance. Speaking clearly, he provided details about the situation and the bus’s location.

“We need help … Bus driver is not breathing,” Charlie said over the radio.

Charlie later described the moment and how he focused on keeping other students calm while help was on the way.

“I was a little bit shaky, and once I got settled down, it was scary. I was trying to keep the kids calm and make sure they don’t get freaked out and try to get them to the back of the bus,” he said.

When asked how he knew how to use the radio, Charlie offered a simple explanation. “Yeah, couple ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ movies … you just gotta be calm and do what needs to be done at the time,” he said.

School officials confirmed that another student also assisted during the emergency.

Crestview Local Schools Superintendent Jim Grubbs said an eighth-grade student named Kali helped guide students to the back of the bus and placed a 911 call, according to Good Morning America.

“The actions of these students were truly outstanding,” Grubbs said. “They remained calm, communicated clearly, and helped one another in a situation that could have been much worse. Their families should be incredibly proud.”

The bus driver was transported to a hospital following the incident and was later discharged, according to reports.

She reportedly told officials she was grateful she had taken time to teach students how to use the bus radio in the event of an emergency.

School officials said the video has since been shared internally as an example of how students can respond in emergency situations. No further details were released about the driver’s medical condition.
