A tourist visiting New York City was stabbed Monday evening outside Bryant Park in what police described as an apparent random attack, leaving the victim hospitalized and investigators searching for a suspect, as reported by The New York Post.

According to police and law enforcement sources, the victim is a 44-year-old man visiting from Canada.

The stabbing occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the southeast corner of Bryant Park, close to 40th Street and Sixth Avenue, a heavily trafficked area in Midtown Manhattan.

Emergency responders transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made, and investigators had not released a description of the suspect. The New York City Police Department said the investigation remains active.

The attack occurred during evening hours when pedestrian traffic is typically high in the area. Bryant Park sits behind the New York Public Library and is surrounded by office buildings, restaurants, and retail businesses.

During the holiday season, the park hosts its Winter Village, which includes an outdoor skating rink, vendor stalls, and seasonal attractions that draw large crowds of tourists and residents.

Police did not indicate whether the victim had any interaction with the suspect prior to the stabbing or whether any words were exchanged.

Investigators said the incident appeared to be unprovoked, based on preliminary information.

Witnesses were reportedly in the area at the time of the attack, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and city cameras.

The NYPD has not said whether the suspect was armed with a knife recovered at the scene or whether the weapon was taken when the suspect fled.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about public safety in high-traffic tourist areas, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Bryant Park is routinely patrolled by uniformed officers, private security, and park staff, especially when large events are underway.

Police urged anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing or who has information related to the incident to contact authorities. No further details about the victim’s identity were released.

City officials have not issued a statement regarding the stabbing. Investigators continue to canvass the area and interview potential witnesses as they work to identify the suspect responsible for the attack.
