New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged incident in Massachusetts earlier this month, according to court records released Tuesday.
Documents from Dedham District Court show that Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery related to an incident that allegedly occurred on December 2.
The charges were first reported by WBZ-TV.

The alleged victim has not been publicly identified, and no additional details about the incident have been released by authorities at this time.
Diggs has denied the allegations, and both the New England Patriots organization and his legal counsel issued statements responding to the charges.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Patriots acknowledged the situation and said the team is monitoring the case.
“Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” the team said.
Diggs’ attorney, David Meier, also released a statement strongly denying the accusations and disputing their legitimacy.
“Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur,” Meier said.
“The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”
According to court records, Diggs is scheduled to appear in Dedham District Court on January 23 for arraignment.
The charges come during a productive season for the veteran receiver, who has played a central role in the Patriots’ offense.
Through the current season, Diggs has recorded 82 receptions for 970 receiving yards, both of which lead the team.
Diggs is also nearing a milestone in franchise history.
He is 30 receiving yards away from becoming the first Patriots player to record a 1,000-yard receiving season since Julian Edelman accomplished the feat in 2019.
Most recently, Diggs played a key role in New England’s 42-10 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, finishing the game with six receptions for 101 yards.
Neither the NFL nor law enforcement officials have released further information regarding the case.
The Patriots organization indicated it will continue to cooperate with authorities and the league as the legal process moves forward.
The case remains pending, with Diggs’ arraignment set for late January.
