Somali Import Senator Tells ICE to Get Out of ‘Our Community’ [WATCH]

A Democratic state senator in Oregon publicly denounced U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during a press conference in Portland, telling federal authorities to leave the state as the Department of Homeland Security released details about a recent shooting involving suspected members of a violent Venezuelan gang.

Oregon State Sen. Kayse Jama made the remarks Thursday while speaking to reporters as local and state leaders gathered to address an incident involving federal agents and two individuals in Portland.

Jama, a Muslim who was born in Somalia, directed his comments specifically at federal immigration authorities.

“Let me say to the federal agencies and ICE. This is Oregon, we do not need you, you’re not welcome, and you need to get the hell out of our community,” Jama said during the press conference.

According to KOIN, Jama spoke as officials responded to questions about a shooting involving federal agents earlier in the day.

Jama’s biography on the Oregon State Legislature website states that he is a former refugee.

At the same time as Jama’s remarks, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security released details about the Portland incident, which involved two individuals with alleged ties to the violent Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela.

“At 2:19 PST, US Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland, Oregon,” DHS said in a statement released Thursday.

“The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland.”

DHS said the driver of the vehicle was also believed to be affiliated with Tren de Aragua, which federal officials have identified as a violent Venezuelan gang operating internationally.

“The vehicle driver is believed to be a member of the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua,” the agency said.

According to DHS, the encounter escalated after agents identified themselves to the occupants of the vehicle.

“When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents,” DHS stated.

“Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene.”

DHS said the situation remained under investigation and additional information would be released as it became available.

“This situation is evolving and more information is forthcoming,” the agency said.

The Portland incident followed another recent confrontation involving federal immigration agents.

Earlier this week, an ICE agent shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who allegedly used her vehicle as a weapon while agents were conducting operations, according to Breitbart News.

The issue of ICE operations has drawn criticism from Democratic officials in multiple cities.

Jama’s comments in Portland echoed remarks made a day earlier by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, following the fatal shooting involving ICE agents in Minnesota.

“I do have a message for our community, our city, and I do have a message for ICE,” Frey said Wednesday.

“To ICE, get the f**k out of Minneapolis.”

Federal immigration enforcement has intensified in recent months as President Donald Trump’s administration has targeted criminal illegal aliens across the country. In November, a woman in Portland was accused of disrupting ICE operations as agents carried out enforcement actions focused on criminal activity.

Democratic-led Minnesota is also facing scrutiny related to allegations of large-scale fraud tied to the state’s Somali community, an issue that has drawn attention from federal investigators and lawmakers.

Neither Jama nor other Oregon officials addressed the DHS allegations regarding Tren de Aragua during the press conference.

DHS has maintained that agents involved in recent incidents acted in self-defense during encounters that posed immediate threats to their safety.
