British School Comes Under Fire Over Pics of Kids Holding Guns

If someone tasked me with creating a school, there are some things I’d do differently than most. I’d include the core subjects like math, history, and science, but there are things I’d add. I’d return Latin and logic to school curricula, for one thing, and take more of a classical education approach. I’d also include martial arts training as part of the school day and, if I had the space, firearms education.

It’s not that I’d try to raise a generation of warriors, it’s just…well, I’d try to raise a generation of warriors. Not for any nefarious purpose, but because a nation that cannot defend itself isn’t much of a nation, and strength in depth is a fantastic strategy for national security.

Yet it seems that some of my ideas are already in place in a school, one located in the UK of all places, and unsurprisingly, the media hates it.

A ‘school’ in Sussex has come under harsh scrutiny after photographs of young children with guns and other weapons surfaced.

Hope Sussex, opened by Matthew Single and his wife Sadie, teaches young children subjects such as maths, English and science – alongside shooting and martial arts – has barred Ofsted from inspecting the premises, claiming it’s an ‘autonomous community’.

Newly released photos from the founder show worrying images of children posing with nunchucks and rifles.

The founder was also photographed with a shirt reading ‘I identify as a conspiracy theorist, my pronouns are told/you/so’.

In a statement to Metro, Single said: ‘My T-shirt was a gift from a good friend, and I couldn’t resist taking a picture and posting it online ages ago. I wasn’t expecting, however, for it to become so popular!’

Around 40 families attend the ‘school’ each day, where students as young as four are reportedly given lessons on how to shoot firearms.

Now, there’s no evidence that the school is doing anything illegal, and there’s no evidence provided that Hope Sussex isn’t providing a good education for those 40 families.

So why put the word “school” in scare quotes above?

Because it’s pretty clear that this particular school isn’t toeing the British line on education, taking a decidedly more rightward lean in creating a learning environment.

The thing is, though, some of those classes likely do more to keep kids coming to school excited each day than any other course is likely to do. A lot of kids love weapons. They pick up sticks, and they become swords, guns, or whatever else is needed at the time. I sure as hell did that, and so did literally all of my friends. It was just the way things were back then, and we didn’t have school mass shootings then, either.

By including classes like martial arts, firearms, and so on, Single is probably doing more to keep kids stoked about showing up day after day than the UK government ever could.

That’s a good thing.

It’s just unfortunate that once-Great Britain has fallen so hard. They can’t even tolerate a small school doing something different, simply because it won’t shape compliant subjects, but will create warriors who know how to take care of themselves.

Oh, the horror.

Somehow, though, I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone in Poland read that same piece and decide to institute it in all of their public schools. It seems like the only sane place in Europe these days.
