A man was arrested Friday night after Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democrat from Florida, was punched in the face during a party connected to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, according to multiple reports.

As Breitbart reported, the incident occurred at a party hosted by the Creative Artists Agency during the Sundance Film Festival. On Saturday, Frost said the assault was racially motivated and took place at a venue in Park City.

“Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face,” Frost wrote in a post on X.

“He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested, and I am okay,” Frost added. “Thank you to the venue security and Park City PD for assistance on this incident.”

Frost, 29, became the first Gen Z and first Afro-Cuban member of the U.S. Congress when he was elected in 2022. In a follow-up post several hours later, he again addressed the incident and his condition.

“I am okay. Thank you for all the well wishes. We are in scary times. Please stay safe and do not let these people silence you. Onwards,” Frost wrote.

Sources told Deadline that the arrest followed what was described as a racially charged confrontation inside a restroom at the High West Saloon in Park City.

Witnesses told the outlet that the man who was arrested “shocked those in his vicinity with remarks about his pride in being white” before allegedly punching Frost in the face.

According to Deadline, the suspect had reportedly crashed the party. After the assault, venue security quickly intervened and detained the man until law enforcement arrived. He was then taken into custody by police.

Authorities have not publicly released the suspect’s name or announced whether formal charges have been filed.

The Sundance Film Festival issued a statement condemning the incident, despite noting that the party was not an official festival event.

Variety reported that the organization responded by saying, “We strongly condemn last night’s assault and abhor any form of violence, harassment, and hate speech.”

“While the incident occurred at a non-Festival-affiliated event, such behavior is intolerable and against our values of upholding a welcoming and inspiring environment for all our attendees,” the statement continued.

Festival officials also emphasized concerns about safety following the attack.

“The safety and security of our festival attendees is always our chief concern, and our thoughts are with Congressman Frost and his continued well-being,” the organization said.

“We encourage anyone with additional information on this matter to contact the Park City Police Department,” the statement added.

The 2026 Sundance Film Festival is currently underway, taking place in Park City and Salt Lake City from January 22 through February 1.

Events associated with the festival draw thousands of attendees each year, including filmmakers, industry executives, celebrities, and elected officials.

Park City Police have not released additional details about the arrest as of Saturday.

No injuries beyond those described by Frost have been reported, and Frost indicated he did not require medical treatment following the incident.
