Quelle Surprise: NYT’s ‘Gaza Doctor’ Is a Hamas Colonel

Say, does anyone remember when the New York Times’ staff declared themselves unsafe when a sitting US Senator wrote an op-ed on the use of the Insurrection Act to stop riots? The mere suggestion of force to put an end to attacks on federal property, they collectively wailed from their fainting couches, was unthinkable in the Paper of Record.

Well, guess who’s been coming to the Gray Lady’s op-ed dinner when it comes to justifying terrorism against Israel? The Paper of Record claimed Hussam Abu Safiya was nothing more than a physician with the Gaza Medical Services when they published two essays demanding that Israel stop the war that Hamas started. As it happens, though, Abu Safiya is among the top echelon of Hamas officers in Gaza:

A Gaza doctor who slammed Israel in a pair of New York Times op-eds is a colonel with terror group Hamas, according to an Israeli watchdog group and the Israeli Defense Forces.

Hussam Abu Safyia was photographed wearing a Hamas camo military uniform while at a gathering of Hamas elites to celebrate the completion of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in 2016, according to the Jerusalem-based watchdog NGO Monitor.

Oh my! How could the Paper of Record ever known about this? Abu Safiya must have been a master of infiltration and deception, no? Er … no:

Safyia’s photo appeared on the Gaza Medical Services‘ Facebook page — a group overseen by the Hamas-run health ministry.

The ceremony was attended by ranking members of the brutal terror group, including Gen. Abu Obaida Al-Jarrah, Director of Military Medical Services Saeed Saoudi and National Security Forces commander Col. Naeem Al-Ghoul, according to the post.

Moreover, NGO Monitor and other online researchers identified multiple Arabic-language sources that openly refer to Safiya as “Colonel Hussam Abu Safiya.”

Kamal Adwan Hospital itself is also considered to be a Hamas stronghold.

Additionally, researchers found Facebook posts by Safiya celebrating October 7 and calling for terror against “the Jews.” One read: “And they thought their fortresses would protect them from God, but God came upon them from where they did not expect, and cast terror into their hearts.” The text was accompanied by an image of terrorists parachuting into Israel on the day of the massacre. …

Despite his rank in Hamas being well known within Arab media circles, Safiya was nevertheless invited to write opinion pieces for the NYT. 

“Despite”? Oh, hahahahahaha. If only “despite” applied here.

There are only two explanations for this. Either the New York Times is completely incapable of doing its own background checks on its Op-Ed page essayists before publication, or the newspaper knew exactly who Abu Safiya is and published his essays anyway while lying about his identity. There are no other possibilities. 

And I know which way I’d bet. Given the huge stink made by its own staff in 2020 after Tom Cotton wrote about a legitimate option for dealing with urban unrest targeting federal property, one would presume that the op-ed staff that took over would take some time to validate their essayists in the future. Furthermore, the NYT has resources in Arabic media with which to vet anyone posing as a “Gaza doctor” who operates under a Hamas regime. NGO found this information without those connections by searching through publicly available articles and social media posts. Either the NYT chose to lie to its readers by hiding Abu Safiya’s position as a colonel in Hamas, or they chose to lie to themselves by doing no vetting at all. 

Either way, the NYT and its editors lied and are still lying. And for what purpose? They wanted an excuse to blame the Joooooos for being victims of Hamas for the last 20 years and finally deciding to put an end to it. They chose Abu Safiya to run Hamas propaganda on their pages. 

We already knew that the Gray Lady is a whore. Now we know to whom she prefers to sell her bed.
