Federal agents with K-9 units returned Wednesday evening to the Tucson-area home of Nancy Guthrie as investigators renewed efforts in the search for the missing 84-year-old woman, according to reports from the scene, as reported by The New York Post.

The agents joined officers from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, who reinstalled caution tape around the property to restrict access.

NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin reported the renewed activity in a post on X, noting that law enforcement appeared to be preparing for a new phase of the investigation.

“It’s been quiet here for the last couple of days, but now clearly they are about to do something at the house,” Entin said while filming agents as they established their perimeter.

Authorities conducted a grid-style search of a wooded thicket adjacent to the home and also searched the garage, Entin reported.

The property is located in Tucson. Law enforcement activity at the residence lasted less than two hours before officers removed the police tape and left the scene.

Investigators are now leaving Nancy Guthrie’s house and taking crime scene tape down.

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, has not been seen since Saturday night, when family members dropped her off at her home.

Her disappearance was initially treated as a missing-persons case but was later escalated.

Police formally declared the case a criminal investigation on Monday. Sources previously told The New York Post that when officers first responded after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing, they observed signs of forced entry at the home along with blood spatters on the property.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed what, if any, evidence was recovered during Wednesday’s renewed search.

The return of law enforcement came just hours after the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the home had been turned back over to Guthrie’s family.

At the time, officials cautioned that investigative activity could continue at or near the property as the case developed.

The disappearance has drawn national attention due to Guthrie’s family ties and the troubling details disclosed by investigators.

Neighbors have described the area as quiet and low-crime, with one nearby resident reportedly saying he had “never heard of crime” in the suburb and that the neighborhood was considered so safe it did not require streetlights.

As the search continued, the White House confirmed that Donald Trump personally called Savannah Guthrie amid the ongoing investigation, according to officials.

Separately, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has become involved after reports that online trolls sent crank letters and threats connected to the case.

NBC colleagues have also spoken publicly about the situation, with one Olympics coworker saying the case left him with a “pit in his stomach” as questions remain unanswered.

Investigators have not announced any arrests or identified suspects. Authorities have also not provided an update on whether the blood evidence observed earlier has been forensically linked to Nancy Guthrie.

Law enforcement officials continue to urge anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
