FBI Director Kash Patel said the Justice Department and FBI have never stopped pursuing justice for the 2012 Benghazi terror attack, crediting President Trump’s leadership and interagency cooperation for recent successes, including the capture of a key suspect now facing prosecution in the United States.

“General, thank you, and I want to steal one of your lines. Never forget. Pam, never forgot. The President never forgot this. FBI never forgot and certainly us,” Patel said, referencing the attack that killed four Americans.

“When an act of terrorism of this magnitude strikes at the heart of our nation. We go to work.”

Patel said President Trump ensured the FBI and the broader national security apparatus had the resources needed to pursue terrorists wherever they are found.

“President Trump has given us the full resources at the FBI and across the interagency to make sure we deliver justice,” he said.

Patel credited Attorney General Pam Bondi with leading the effort to bring agencies together to secure the arrest and transfer of the Benghazi suspect.

“Dan and I did sit down early on about this to bring justice, but you led the effort,” Patel said.

“You brought together the interagency. You said, we are going to get this done, because no one agency alone can do it.”

He emphasized that such operations require coordination across the federal government.

“You cannot do that alone at the FBI,” Patel said.

“You have to have an attorney general and a Department of Justice willing to prosecute, willing to go to the four corners of the earth and make sure we deliver justice.”

Patel highlighted the administration’s broader record in pursuing dangerous fugitives.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, six of the FBI is most wanted fugitives in one calendar year,” he said, noting that the total exceeded the number captured during the entire prior administration.

He also recalled his personal connection to the Benghazi case, dating back to his early career.

“As a young prosecutor at CTS in the National Security Division I worked on the Benghazi case,” Patel said.

“This was very near and dear and personal to me. We lost four brave Americans, and Chris Shaw and Kyle and Steve, and we can never, ever, ever forget them, ever, and we will not.”

Patel described the formal transfer of custody of the suspect earlier that day.

“I was at the airfield with us, Attorney Pirro, earlier this morning, when we did the formal foreign transfer of custody of Bakoush into us custody to face prosecution,” he said, adding that the Justice Department will now pursue the case on behalf of the fallen Americans.

He credited multiple FBI units and agents for their persistence over more than a decade.

“The FBI hostage rescue team. The FBI is critical incident response group, our special flight operations unit, and countless others, along with the agents in the New York Field Office who never forgot Benghazi and never let the world forget it,” Patel said.

“Endured over a decade to bring yet another terrorist who killed four Americans to justice.”

Patel said the case demonstrates the federal government’s long-term commitment to accountability.

“That is a relentless pursuit of mission that can only happen when you have an inner agency who’s willing to get after,” he said.
