Rap artist Nicki Minaj publicly criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom this week, accusing him of talking down to black audiences after a video surfaced of the governor addressing a crowd, as reported by Breitbart.
Minaj responded to footage in which Newsom told a black audience, “I’m like you,” before referencing his SAT score and stating that he scored a 960 and “can’t read” his own speeches. The clip circulated widely on X on Monday.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement
In response, Minaj posted: “His way of bonding with black ppl is to tell them how stupid he is & that he can’t read.”
She continued in a separate post, “This means my first read on him was correct. He’s been handed so many things & put in high positions he never earned or deserved.”
Minaj also criticized Newsom’s speaking style in the video, writing that he slowed down his delivery and used what she described as a “sporadic cadence” while addressing the black audience.

“Do you wanna know the craziest part of this footage that will haunt him forever? He’s literally slowing his speech down & talking in a sporadic cadence,” she said.
In another post, Minaj added:
“He’s not just TELLING them that they’re all probably stupid & probably can’t read, he’s LITERALLY SLOW-ING-DOWN-HIS-SPEECH to make them understand the words that are coming out of his mouth!!!! As if they’re children!!!!”
“That means he REALLY BELIEVES they’re slow. He’s not just saying it — he didn’t misspeak!!!! He BELIEVES it!!!!” she wrote.
The rapper then directed a message to her followers, asking: “Do ya love it?!?!! Do ya just love it, black ppl?!????”

Minaj’s remarks follow her recent public statements expressing support for President Donald Trump.
As previously reported, she described herself as “probably” his “number one fan,” adding, “and that’s not going to change,” and said that receiving “hate” from leftists “actually motivates me to support him more.”
Minaj first signaled support for President Trump late last year, praising him and his administration on several issues, including efforts to stop the persecution and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.
In recent weeks, some of the singer’s fans have taken to social media to state that they are switching their party affiliation to the Republican Party.
The exchange between Minaj and Newsom comes as political figures and public personalities increasingly engage in debates across social media platforms, particularly on X, where both elected officials and entertainers frequently address policy issues and cultural topics.
Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to public criticism regarding the video at the center of the controversy.
