Another Disappointing Legislative Session for Anti-Gunner Tim Walz

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was far closer to being vice president than anyone should ever be comfortable with. While vice presidents are often the butt of jokes, the fact that the guy always has an expression where it looks like he just got caught having familial relations with the neighbor’s dog is probably the least annoying thing about the man.

And that’s saying something.

He’s another example of a politician who played at being pro-gun while it was convenient, then went anti-gun when he ran for statewide office. Since becoming governor, he’s pushed for a lot of gun control. He’s largely been disappointed, thankfully.

My guess is that this year, he could use the gun control issue, leverage the Annunciation Catholic School shooting for more support, and hopefully distract people from the billions in daycare fraud happening in his own state.

Once again, it looks like Timmy is going to be disappointed.

We’ve been closely watching and reporting on several punitive gun-control proposals in the Minnesota legislature, including several from Gov. Tim Walz. Of course, the worst of them was a proposal that would have banned many semi-automatic firearms in common use by lawful Minnesotans and another that would have banned the normal-capacity magazines that those common firearms use.

Following committee votes on February 24 and 25, however, many of the measures have stalled in committee. And there’s a better-than-even chance that they won’t receive further consideration this session.

Among those stalled was HF 3433, which would have banned commonly owned gas-operated semi-automatic firearms, a direct infringement on the Second Amendment. Under the measure, anyone who lawfully possessed a banned firearm would have been required to register it with the state before May 1, 2027, and then adhere to very restrictive mandatory storage requirements afterward.

Another measure that has stalled in committee is HF 3402. Equally as egregious as HF 3433, this proposal would set arbitrary magazine capacity restrictions and does not include a grandfather clause. Any magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds would have to be moved out of state, modified, destroyed or surrendered to law enforcement.

There was also a bill seeking to repeal preemption that writer Mark Chesnut argues could have had a bigger impact on people than an assault weapon ban, and I tend to agree with him.

The truth of the matter is that no matter how badly Gov. Tim Walz wants gun control, the legislature has no interest in giving it to him. While the state’s urban centers are clamoring for it, our political system was meant to prevent the tyranny of the mob. States replicated this system for a reason, and because of that, the urban centers aren’t able to just do whatever they want in many places.

Sure, there are some states where the urban centers are just too much of the population for folks elsewhere to get a say, but Minnesota has managed to stand firm, which means Walz is going to be disappointed.

Since he’s also said he’s not running for re-election, that means he’ll leave political life forever without having accomplished his anti-gun agenda. It would be sad if his agenda didn’t suck so badly.

Who am I kidding? It would be funny no matter how much less his anti-gun agenda sucked, because there’s no good anti-gun agenda.

Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
