California Governor Gavin Newsom found himself on the receiving end of a pointed comedic send-up during an appearance Tuesday night on “Live with Jimmy Kimmel!” where a surprise impersonator took the stage to parody the governor in front of a national television audience, as reported by The New York Post.

Newsom appeared on the late-night program to promote his memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry,” when the segment took an unexpected turn near the end of the interview.

Comedian Josh Meyers, known for impersonating the California governor and the brother of late-night host Seth Meyers, rolled onto the stage on a skateboard to perform a mock portrayal of Newsom.

“Oh, man. I am so psyched to be here for a Newsom twosome,” Meyers joked as he approached the stage. “I mean, I just came from a ribbon-cutting sesh at a shelter for non-binary chihuahuas.”

Meyers appeared dressed to resemble the governor, sporting gray hair and adopting Newsom’s familiar suit-without-a-tie look. The impersonator then presented the governor with a mock trophy, telling the audience it was in recognition of his work across the state.

“For your tireless work in uniting the people of Cali.”

The comedian continued the bit by listing a series of groups he claimed were united by Newsom’s leadership.

“From the meth dealers of Riverside to the shapely Armenians of the Glendale Galleria, from chakra doulas and yoga thems to farmers market furries and rollerbladers with gluten sensitivities.”

Newsom responded with an awkward chuckle as the impersonation continued, while host Jimmy Kimmel played along with the gag. At one point, Kimmel asked Meyers about the composition of the trophy he had handed to the governor.

“Plated with platinum that was ethically sourced from all my expired AMEX cards. And it holds an entire magnum of this thick-a– Sauv Blanc,” Meyers replied.

The exchange came during a segment that Kimmel had already framed with political humor. At the start of the show, the host jokingly suggested that Newsom had come to the program to announce a presidential campaign.

While no formal announcement has been made, speculation has circulated about the governor’s possible ambitions for the 2028 presidential election.

Newsom’s national appearances and media engagements have increasingly drawn attention as those discussions continue.

At the same time, the governor has faced criticism at home in California, where several recent overseas trips have drawn scrutiny from critics who argue that major problems in the state remain unresolved.

This week, Newsom also came under fire for comments about California’s homelessness response.

The governor shifted blame toward counties for difficulties in implementing the state’s homelessness plan, a move critics described as another example of him “passing the buck” on the state’s ongoing problems as talk of a possible presidential bid continues.

The late-night appearance highlighted both the growing national profile of the California governor and the scrutiny surrounding his record at home.

The surprise impersonation segment drew laughter from the studio audience while leaving the governor briefly reacting to the satirical portrayal.
