State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce discussed the international response to recent U.S. actions involving Iran during an interview with Fox News contributor Joey Jones, addressing questions about whether the world was surprised by the move and how the United States works with other countries on major foreign policy decisions.

Jones began the conversation by asking about diplomatic activity that may have taken place before the U.S. action and whether allies had been consulted through international institutions such as the United Nations.

“Where you work and the access you have to these other countries. We always hear things like, you know, the Arab nations wouldn’t mind if you took Iran out, but they don’t want to publicly be behind it,” Jones said.

He also referenced reactions from European countries following the operation.

“We look at things like the way Europe responded immediately after not letting us use their bases,” he said.

Jones asked whether the United States had worked to build international support in advance.

“What was the work at the UN prior to this?” Jones said.

“In other words, was there an effort to get certain countries on board? Was there an effort to share intelligence and make this a concerted effort? Or did we truly take the entire world by surprise?”

Bruce responded by explaining that the State Department and the United Nations operate within the framework of the president’s foreign policy decisions.

“You know, at the UN Of course, it’s the umbrella. Is the State Department. We implement the President’s agenda,” Bruce said.

“So we don’t create an agenda or decide how to move forward with something like that,” she added.

Bruce said major decisions ultimately come from the president and his cabinet.

“It’s really a matter of what the President decides what his cabinet is doing and how they move forward,” she said.

Bruce then discussed President Donald Trump’s long-standing focus on Iran and the country’s role in international security issues.

“What I can tell you is, what everyone knows is the President has been talking about Iran and the problem of Iran for 40 years, four zero years, decades,” Bruce said.

She said the issue has remained a consistent concern for many Americans since the Iranian revolution.

“Like every other American after the takeover, and I think that that’s been his consistent concern,” Bruce said.

Bruce also referenced recent military conflict involving Iran.

“And thought, I think that also, look, we had just after the 12 day war, right? I mean, we just engaged in that,” she said.

According to Bruce, the president has been direct about his intentions when dealing with international issues.

“The President is one of the most transparent guys that, that I’ve ever known, in that he tells you what he’s going to do,” Bruce said.

She said the administration typically attempts diplomatic solutions before taking other steps.

“He’s like, we’re trying this first. We’re good, we’re doing our best, and they better cooperate,” Bruce said.

Bruce emphasized that she believes the president does not try to conceal his intentions.

“He’s he’s never, there’s he’s not trying to trick anybody. He doesn’t ambush you,” she said.

She argued that because of that approach, other nations should not have been surprised by the decision.

“So of course, this isn’t a surprise, because he will a lot of patience,” Bruce said.

She added that the president attempts to allow negotiations and diplomacy to succeed before moving forward with other actions.

“He’ll try to make sure everything has worked,” Bruce said.

Bruce said the decision to act comes when other options have been exhausted.

“Clearly, something broke and it was okay. This is not going to work,” she said.

She also described the president as someone focused on completing objectives.

“He’s a builder, he likes deadlines. Finishing things is important,” Bruce said.

Bruce concluded by saying she believes the administration’s actions will have long-term global consequences.

“And he knows that he’s got a special impact. We’ve got three years to change the world, and he’s doing it,” Bruce said.

She said the changes being made could shape global events for decades.

“This is, you will look back on this,” Bruce said.

She also addressed journalists covering the developments.

“And you guys are in remarkable positions in reporting,” she said.

Bruce concluded by saying she believes the actions being taken will influence global affairs for generations.

“This is, this is the change that will endure,” Bruce said.

“It will change the world for at least the next 100 years, five, six generations, and it will be because that man had the courage to say, enough is enough, and decided to act,” she said.

“It’s a very exciting time.”
