Travis Etienne is heading back to Louisiana, and the New Orleans Saints are paying starter money to make sure it happens.
Etienne agreed to a four year, $52 million contract with the Saints as the NFL’s legal tampering period opened Monday, lining up one of the most notable running back moves of the early free agency window. Multiple reports indicated Etienne had interest from other teams but prioritized New Orleans because it allowed him to return to his home state.
Etienne, 27, spent four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being drafted in 2021, and his last season in Jacksonville was his most productive. In 2025 he totaled 1,399 yards from scrimmage, including 1,107 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 36 receptions, and six receiving touchdowns.

The Saints’ running game finished 28th in rushing yards per game and 31st in yards per carry last season, numbers that put the offense in “needs help” territory before the schedule even got out of September.
