Karoline Leavitt Says Jean-Pierre Struggled Due to Biden Admin Transparency Issues [WATCH]

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that her predecessor, Karine Jean-Pierre, faced difficulties in the role due to what she described as limited transparency from former President Joe Biden, as reported by Fox News.

Leavitt made the remarks during an interview with Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk, where she discussed differences in communication styles between the previous administration and current President Donald Trump.

“I saw my predecessor in this role have a bit of a hard time,” Leavitt said, referring to Jean-Pierre. “I think it’s because she wasn’t able to communicate with her boss in a very open and transparent way.”

Leavitt contrasted that experience with her current role, describing Trump as direct in his communication with both staff and the public. She said his approach reduces the need for messaging adjustments typically associated with the position.

“He just lays it on the table. There’s no guessing, there’s no questioning, there’s no spin, it’s just, it is what it is with him,” Leavitt said.

Jean-Pierre served as White House press secretary for nearly three years during the Biden administration.

During that time, she drew criticism from Republican lawmakers who argued she relied heavily on prepared notes and had difficulty addressing questions about the president’s positions beyond scripted remarks.

Throughout her tenure, Jean-Pierre also defended Biden’s mental fitness from the podium. Subsequent reporting indicated that some of the president’s allies had privately expressed concerns about his ability to carry out the duties of the office.

Leavitt said that Trump’s openness about his positions makes her responsibilities more straightforward, though she acknowledged that his communication style has also generated criticism, particularly regarding his social media presence.

“We never know what you’re [going to] get when you walk into the White House these days. Every day is an adventure,” Leavitt said.

Since leaving the White House, Jean-Pierre has registered as an Independent and released a memoir addressing her time in the administration.

While promoting the book, she defended Biden’s approach to public communication during a podcast appearance.

“The president spoke to the American people a couple times a week. He traveled and did domestic travel and talked directly to the American people,” Jean-Pierre said on “The Bulwark” podcast last October.

“We are talking about a time politically that is incredibly partisan. It is hard to break through any messaging, and it was an incumbency as well,” she added.

Jean-Pierre has also responded to ongoing questions about Biden’s age and performance. In a separate interview, she described her firsthand experience working with him.

“I saw someone who was always engaged. I saw someone who understood policy, pushed us on the policy, and also understood history,” Jean-Pierre said during an appearance on “CBS Mornings.”
