Is this new? I think part of it is new but there’s so much information on this case floating around that it’s hard to pin down. Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 last year. The first question that everyone wanted answered was ‘Who did this?’ and the second question was ‘Why?’.
After Tyler Robinson turned himself in to police after meeting with his parents, we started to get a sense of why from messages he had exchanged with his roommate/boyfriend Lance Twiggs. Here’s what ABC News reported back on Sep. 16, 2025:
On the day of the shooting, the roommate received a text message from the 22-year-old that said, “drop what you are doing, look under my keyboard,” according to charging documents.
The roommate found a note underneath Robinson’s keyboard that said, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” according to charging documents.
That one line from the letter seemed to be a confession of his intent but that was all that was reported at the time.
Today, we’re getting more on the letter left under the keyboard. This came to light in an affidavit for a search warrant of Robinson’s apartment One of the things investigators found was a photo of the letter left for the boyfriend whom Robinson sometimes called “Luna.”
“Luna,
If you are reading this per my text, then I am so sorry. I left the house this morning on a mission, and set an auto text. I am likely dead, or facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it. I don’t know if I will/have succeeded, but I had hoped to make it home to you. I wish we could have lived in a world where this did not feel necessary. I wish I could have stayed for you and lived our lives together. I lack the words to express how much I love you, and how very much you mean to me. Please try and find joy in this life. I love you, always, -Tyler.”
This is pretty obviously a confession. He was expecting to die or go to prison for his actions. It sounds like he is saying goodbye. Robinson’s roommate/boyfriend even seems to have thought of this as a confession:
The unnamed roommate told investigators that Tyler Robinson had alerted him to a confession under his keyboard after last Wednesday’s shooting at Utah Valley University campus in the city of Orem, said prosecutors.
It’s not clear if Twiggs destroyed the letter but if so he kept a photo of it. That’s apparently the photo that investigators have. In any case, destroying the confession didn’t help much because Robinson went on to confess again in the text exchange with Twiggs that followed immediately after he read the letter. This exchange has been public since last September.
Roommate: “What?????????????? You’re joking, right????
Robinson: I am still ok my love, but am stuck in orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.
Roommate: you weren’t the one who did it right????
Robinson: I am, I’m sorry
Roommate: I thought they caught the person?
Robinson: no, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing. I had planned to grab my rifle from my drop point shortly after, but most of that side of town got locked down. Its quiet, almost enough to get out, but theres one vehicle lingering.
Roommate: Why?
Robinson: Why did I do it?
Roommate: Yeah
Robinson: I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.
So that’s arguably four separate confessions Robinson has made. There was the letter. There was the text exchange that followed. There was his confession to his parents after they confronted him and he agreed to turn himself in. And there was one more to his friends online.
The 22-year-old suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing appears to have confessed to friends in an online chat shortly before turning himself in to law enforcement, according to two people familiar with the chat and screenshots obtained by The Washington Post.
“Hey guys, I have bad news for you all,” said a message from an account belonging to the suspect, Tyler Robinson, on the online platform Discord. “It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this.”
The message was sent Thursday night, about two hours before officials said Robinson was taken into custody.
Four confessions. I don’t think the jury is going to have a hard time deliberating this one.
Alternatively, there are still a lot of people hanging on the nonsense being put forward by a podcaster. This is the quality of evidence and reasoning meant to convince us that the four confessions aren’t good enough to convict Robinson.
