Georgia Lawmaker To Investigate Fani Willis Over $2 Million Biden Grant

A Georgia lawmaker plans to investigate a $2 million no-bid grant from the Biden administration allegedly awarded to Fulton County District Attorney (DA) Fani Willis during her probe into President Donald Trump’s claims of 2020 election fraud.

Willis was allegedly “invited” to apply for the grant from the Department of Justice (DOJ) during the DA’s investigation of Trump in 2022, Just the News reported in February. Republican Georgia state Sen. Greg Dolezal wants to investigate the specifics of the grant receipt, according to the outlet Monday. Dolezal has already led a state-level investigation in Willis’ prosecution of Trump, and he told Just the News’ “No Noise TV” that his next phase is to investigate whether the grant could have functioned as a “carrot” for Willis after Biden publicly said he did not want Trump back in office.

“That’s really going to be the next phase of what we’re looking into is the tie to what could have been a carrot from the time that Joe Biden put up the bat signal on November 13,” he told the outlet.

Dolezal paraphrased remarks he attributed to Biden from Nov. 13, 2022. “We’re going to ensure, by any means possible, that we demonstrate that Donald Trump will not take office,” Dolezal claimed Biden stated.

Dolezal appears to be referencing a Nov. 9, 2022, presidential press briefing, during which Biden said he would “have to demonstrate that [Trump] will not take power … I’m making sure he, under legitimate efforts of our Constitution, does not become the next president again.”

Dolezal told the outlet that on the same day (presumably Nov. 13), the Georgia special prosecutor who investigated Trump, Nathan Wade, “spent eight hours on the phone with the White House. Now, of course, he can’t remember what that eight-hour conversation was about, but we’ve got our guesses as to what it was about.”

Wade told Dolezal during a March subpoena that he did not recall much of his role with the House’s Jan. 6 committee.

Dolezal previously said that while Willis participated in four hours of questioning, she was on the offense.

“Her demeanor and conduct was unacceptable for anyone, let alone a District Attorney for Fulton County,” Doezal tweeted in April.

He also described her as an “unhinged lunatic,” accusing her of “dodging questions, lashing out, [and] refusing to answer straight.”

The award, opened in April 2022 as a competitive grant, was seemingly delivered to Willis’ county as the “sole source,” the outlet reported, citing documents. The DOJ classifies sole source procurement as “noncompetitive,” since only one source competed for it.

The $2 million award was granted for the implementation of programs under the DOJ’s 2022 Office of Justice Programs Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative, Just the News reported.

In early 2021, Trump made allegations of election fraud in Georgia and implored state officials to take action, prompting an investigation into Trump and some of his allies, Just the News reported.

Willis said in a letter to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp that her probe included investigations into possible “solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election’s administration.”

Willis’ office also worked extensively with former President Joe Biden’s DOJ, the White House and Democrats on the House Jan. 6 investigative committee while juggling the failed criminal case against Trump, the outlet reported, citing documents.

The Fulton County District Attorney’s office has not returned the Daily Caller’s request for comment as of publication.
