Buffalo Police have released body camera footage from a Wednesday night incident involving an armed robbery suspect and responding officers on the city’s West Side, detailing a sequence of events that left both the suspect and a store clerk hospitalized.

According to Interim Police Commissioner Craig Macy, the incident took place just before 8:45 p.m. outside a 7-Eleven located at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Connecticut Street.

Officers were not responding to a call at the time but had arrived at the store as customers when they encountered an armed robbery in progress.

“I would say that they were probably as surprised as the clerk to be robbed, and the suspect to see the police after he was leaving the store,” Macy said.

Police identified the suspect as Dejuan Williams. Authorities said Williams shot the store clerk during the robbery and then pointed his firearm at one of the officers as he exited the store.

Officer Ezgi Dilek, who has been on the force for less than two years, discharged her weapon during the encounter.

According to Macy, the first shot struck Williams’ firearm, while a second shot struck him in the arm.

Williams fled the scene on foot after being shot, running down Prospect Avenue.

Police said he then stole a vehicle in what investigators described as a possible carjacking and drove several blocks north before crashing into multiple parked cars.

Officers were able to surround the vehicle at that location and take Williams into custody.

Williams was transported to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where he underwent multiple surgeries.

The store clerk, who was shot in the upper thigh during the robbery, was also taken to ECMC. Police said the clerk was treated and later released.

The department confirmed that both officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following officer-involved shootings.

The 7 News I-Team reported that a second officer present at the scene, Officer Nikki Pascucci, is assigned to the B-District and has been with the department since January 2022.

Authorities also provided details about Williams’ criminal history. Police said he has been on parole since May 2024 after serving time at Riverview for attempted robbery.

According to officials, Williams had been incarcerated from 2011 until his release in 2024.

The body camera footage released by police contains graphic images related to the shooting, and officials cautioned that it may be disturbing to some viewers.

Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the initial robbery and the subsequent actions taken by the suspect and responding officers.

The release of the footage is part of the department’s effort to provide transparency regarding the encounter.

Officials have not released additional details about potential charges against Williams as the investigation remains ongoing.
