Meghan McCain Criticizes ‘The View’ Co-Host Alyssa Farah Griffin in Podcast Comments [WATCH]

Former “The View” co-host Meghan McCain is criticizing current panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin, calling her a “joke” and saying she does not represent conservative women, as reported by The New York Post.

McCain made the remarks Tuesday during an episode of her podcast, “Citizen McCain,” where she spoke about Griffin, who joined the ABC daytime talk show after McCain’s departure.

“I’m gonna say something that’s a little nasty,” McCain said. “The person they replaced me with is a joke. She is in no way representative of conservative women.”

McCain, who previously held the show’s primary conservative seat, also appeared to dismiss Griffin by name during the discussion, referring to her as “whatever” while reiterating her broader criticisms of the program.

“It’s been a wildly disappointing experience for me to see what legacy I helped do during the four years there while my dad battled brain cancer and I had not one, but two miscarriages while I worked there,” she said.

McCain is the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain of Arizona. She joined “The View” as a permanent co-host in October 2017 and remained on the show until August 2021. Her tenure overlapped with the presidency of Donald Trump and included frequent on-air disagreements with other panelists.

One of the most widely noted moments occurred in January 2021 during an exchange with co-host Joy Behar, who told McCain, “I did not miss you. Zero.” McCain later cited that exchange, along with ongoing tensions, as contributing to her decision to leave the show, which she described as a “toxic work environment.”

During her podcast, McCain also criticized the show’s overall track record, stating: “The show has only won an Emmy twice in its history — one time is when I was there, for Best Political Show.” That claim is incorrect, as “The View” has received more than two dozen Daytime Emmy Awards since its debut in 1997.

Despite her criticism of Griffin, McCain spoke positively about former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. “She was great, and she was really strong, and she fought for a lot of the things that I fight for,” McCain said.

A spokesperson for McCain declined to comment further. Requests for comment were sent to Griffin and ABC but have not been publicly addressed.

Griffin joined “The View” as a full-time co-host in 2022 after making several guest appearances. Her background differs from McCain’s, coming primarily from government and political communications rather than media.

She previously worked on Capitol Hill before serving as press secretary to then-Vice President Mike Pence and later as a spokesperson at the Pentagon. Griffin also held the role of White House communications director during the first Trump administration.

Following her time in government, Griffin transitioned into media, including serving as a political commentator for CNN, before joining “The View.”

Politically, Griffin has described herself as a conservative but has also publicly criticized Donald Trump after the 2020 election and the January 6 Capitol incident. She later said she voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
