The Biden-era policies that handed schools carte blanche to push gender ideology are now facing serious scrutiny from the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, led by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon.

Her team has launched investigations into 36 Illinois school districts, questioning whether they have been secretly teaching sexual orientation and gender material to students without notifying parents.

This investigation aims to uncover whether these districts are injecting ideological content into classrooms from kindergarten through 12th grade and failing to provide parents with information on their right to opt their children out.

Even more concerning to parents across the state, Dhillon is looking at whether male students are being allowed into girls’ locker rooms and sports programs under the guise of gender inclusion.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Dhillon didn’t mince words when announcing the investigation.

“This Department of Justice is determined to put an end to local school authorities keeping parents in the dark about how sexuality and gender ideology are being pushed in classrooms,” she stated.

She went on to invoke Supreme Court precedent, emphasizing that parents have the “fundamental right and primary authority to direct the care, upbringing, and education of their children.”

That includes protecting children from “ideological instruction that contradicts their values.”

In an interview with Fox News, Dhillon made it clear that this isn’t political theater.

“We have reason to believe that these school districts in Illinois are not obeying the law,” she said, signaling that her department won’t turn a blind eye to what’s happening behind closed school doors.

Predictably, Illinois Democrats lashed out. Governor JB Pritzker, never one to miss an opportunity for partisan posturing, accused the Trump administration of “punishing states the President does not like,” calling it a “sham investigation.”

His office complained that the Civil Rights Division was no longer concerned with “actual discrimination” but supposedly was focused on “belittling the rights and humanity of LGBTQ+ communities.”

Democrat Senator Dick Durbin echoed Pritzker’s hysterics, claiming the probe was another example of “weaponizing the DOJ.” Durbin, always quick to defend the indefensible, insisted the 36 school districts under review were merely “providing their students with a good, well-rounded education.”

He argued that if the administration “truly cared” about Illinois students, it would “support Head Start programs and stop attacking the rights of LGBTQ+ students.”

In other words, keep the radical curriculum, ditch parental oversight.

What Durbin and Pritzker conveniently ignore is the heart of the matter: parental rights.

Dhillon isn’t targeting identity groups.

She’s upholding the law that requires transparency in education, and ensuring that government officials can’t hide their ideological experiments from parents.

It’s about accountability, not animosity.

For years, activist educators and school boards have sneaked controversial materials into classrooms under “inclusivity” banners, counting on parents being too busy or uninformed to notice.

From the books chosen for elementary libraries to the “gender identity” worksheets quietly distributed in health classes, the push has been steady and deliberate.

Many parents only find out what’s being taught once their children come home confused or upset.

That’s exactly what the Civil Rights Division under Dhillon is determined to change.

The investigation represents a return to the fundamental notion that education should serve families, not override their authority.

It’s also a long-overdue message to liberal-run states like Illinois that “progressive” doesn’t mean “above the law.”

Illinois’ approach to gender ideology has been among the most aggressive in the nation, with state guidance encouraging schools to keep “gender support plans” secret from parents if a student requests it.

Critics argue that this policy undermines family trust and exposes minors to potentially irreversible decisions without parental input. Those concerns now have federal backing.

While Democrats try to paint the federal investigation as a political hit job, the real question is why they are so determined to hide classroom content from parents.

If there’s nothing to conceal, there should be nothing to fear from transparency.

The broader implications reach beyond Illinois. School districts across the country are watching this case closely.

If Dhillon’s Civil Rights Division finds widespread violations, it could spark similar actions in other states where ideological activism has overtaken academic focus.

Parents’ rights advocates have long argued that public education has drifted into social engineering, rather than teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic.

The federal probe could mark the beginning of a reckoning for schools that have substituted activist agendas for education.

Dhillon’s move signals that the era of “Don’t tell mom and dad” is coming to an end.

In a state long controlled by liberal politics, the investigation sends an unmistakable message: parents, not bureaucrats, have the final say in their children’s upbringing.
