JD Vance Calls Out the Grift in Maine [WATCH]

Vice President J.D. Vance pointed to a major Medicaid fraud case in Maine as an example of what he described as failures in immigration enforcement and government oversight during the Biden administration.

Speaking about fraud and immigration policy, Vance focused on a case involving Rakia Mohammed, an illegal alien accused of collecting millions of dollars through fraudulent Medicaid reimbursement claims.

“Here’s the thing, let me talk a little bit about just one person, because I think it highlights how bad the fraud problem has been in the state of Maine,” Vance said.

According to Vance, Mohammed claimed she was providing interpretation services to immigrants through programs reimbursed by Medicaid.

“We had an illegal immigrant in this community who said, who said that she was, she was providing services, interpretive services, to other immigrants,” Vance said.

Vance explained that Medicaid reimburses interpretation services for individuals who do not speak English.

“Okay, so the so Medicaid reimburses people to provide interpretation services for people who don’t speak English,” Vance said.

He also argued that immigrants living in the United States should learn English.

“Which, by the way, people should be speaking English in the United States of America,” Vance said.

“I think that’s common sense.”

According to Vance, investigators later determined Mohammed had not actually provided the services she claimed.

“But this woman, her name was Rakia Mohammed, and it turns out that Rakia Mohammed was not a particularly upstanding citizen,” Vance said.

“So while she said that she was providing interpretation services, do you know what she was actually doing, providing zero services and collecting the $15 million over a five year period that was going directly into her pocket,” Vance said.

Vance said the alleged fraud occurred largely during the Biden administration and criticized federal authorities for failing to intervene sooner.

“And that happened pretty much during the entirety of the Biden administration, and no one in the Biden administration thought to step in and stop this ridiculous fraud,” Vance said.

He questioned why Mohammed was allowed to remain in the United States in the first place.

“Now, I have two questions when it comes to rock he Mohammed stealing $15 million from every single person in this room,” Vance said.

“Question number one is, why was this person in the United States of America to begin with?” Vance asked.

Vance argued immigration policy should prioritize individuals who contribute positively to the country.

“Call me crazy, but I think that when we welcome new immigrants to the United States of America, they should be people who enrich our country and bring some good skills into our country,” Vance said.

“Not a person who’s going to steal $15 million from the people in this room,” Vance added.

Vance also criticized Maine state officials for allegedly failing to stop the fraud before federal authorities became involved.

“But second of all, why on earth are we allowing a person to steal $15 million from all of you without the state government lifting a finger to stop it,” Vance said.

He suggested federal intervention was ultimately necessary to bring charges and pursue accountability.

“Why did it take Washington coming in from the outside to ensure that this person who is defrauding you is going to go to prison?” Vance asked.

Vance concluded by saying Mohammed would ultimately face conviction and imprisonment for the alleged fraud scheme.

“And ladies and gentlemen, that’s exactly what she’s going to happen, convicted, guilty, and she’s going to jail, which is where she belongs,” Vance said.
