California Governor Gavin Newsom has managed to outdo himself again, and that is saying something.

The man never seems to meet a taxpayer dollar he is not eager to torch, and this time, he has done it under the warm glow of “helping children.”

The latest fiasco involves a state-funded pediatric hearing aid program that has managed to spend nearly twenty-three million dollars while delivering only a few hundred hearing aids. Lawmakers and child advocates are absolutely fuming over the waste, and Californians are once again left holding the bill.

Five years ago, rather than backing legislation that would have forced private insurers to cover hearing aids for children, Newsom opted for a state-run fix.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

The result has been precisely what every conservative predicted: a bloated bureaucracy that devours funds while doing next to nothing for the very people it is supposed to help.

According to state reports, the Hearing Aid Coverage for Children Program has around three hundred active enrollees.

That means each case has effectively cost the state about seventy six thousand dollars.

In the private market, that amount could have purchased thousands of hearing aids instead of footing the bill for more public sector “administration.”

Michelle Marciniak, founder of the advocacy group Let California Kids Hear, told The Post that the governor’s office “dropped the ball.”

That is putting it kindly.

WATCH:

Marciniak has spent years pushing for practical solutions that would actually get hearing aids into the ears of children who need them, not fill bureaucrats’ desks with paperwork.

Newsom’s office apparently does not share that urgency.

In fact, he previously vetoed a bill that would have required insurance companies to cover pediatric hearing aids, a commonsense proposal that many families supported.

Rather than empowering parents, he chose government dependency, and the results are as embarrassing as they are predictable.

The cost of hearing aids typically ranges between two thousand and six thousand dollars per pair.

A quick calculation shows that twenty three million dollars could have provided hearing aids for nearly four thousand children if properly managed.

Instead, taxpayers paid vast sums for paperwork, meetings, and bureaucracy.

Critics are not surprised. California’s state programs have become legendary for their waste, mismanagement, and corruption.

From the failed bullet train to billions squandered on homelessness, there seems to be no spending boondoggle too large for Gavin Newsom to embrace.

The man is quickly running out of excuses, even among some in his own party who are tired of explaining away these never-ending “administrative costs.”

Though there is no proven link this time between the hearing aid fiasco and Newsom’s charitable political network, watchdogs are watching closely.

His wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, has previously been tied to well-funded nonprofit projects that conveniently scored state contracts.

Baby2Baby, for instance, was reportedly paid millions to distribute free diapers to newborns at a cost far above normal retail price.

In California politics, “nonprofit” often translates to “politically connected cash funnel.”

When ordinary Californians look at the soaring cost of living, crumbling infrastructure, and chronic fiscal waste, it is hard not to see the pattern.

The state has become a showcase of everything that happens when government grows too big, too unaccountable, and too arrogant.

Programs born from good intentions devolve into bureaucratic feeding frenzies that help insiders while everyday families get left behind.

It is no wonder that even Democratic lawmakers are reportedly losing patience with Newsom’s chronic mismanagement.

He enjoys lecturing national audiences about “innovation,” but his legacy in California looks more like fiscal vandalism.

The hearing aid scandal is not just an unfortunate oversight or a one-off mistake; it is yet another brick in a long wall of incompetence.

And yet, the governor sails on, insulated by friendly media coverage and Hollywood donors who think slogans are solutions.

For the families of children who still cannot afford hearing aids, California’s “progressive paradise” is just another cruel joke.

California taxpayers deserve answers, but if the past is any guide, they will get excuses instead.

The same political class that turned the Golden State into a debt-ridden circus will chalk it up to “unforeseen challenges” or “implementation issues.”

The reality is simpler: Gavin Newsom’s government is incapable of running anything without turning it into a swamp of waste.

The twenty three million dollar hearing aid disaster proves again what conservatives have said all along.

Bloated government programs do not solve problems, they multiply them.

If only Newsom listened as well as the kids he failed to help are still waiting to hear.
