Two U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler jets collided in midair Sunday during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, sending both aircraft down as all four crew members successfully ejected, according to the U.S. Navy, as reported by Fox News.

The crash happened at about 12:10 p.m. MDT during the second day of the air show while the jets were performing an aerial demonstration.

Cmdr. Amelia Umayam, a spokesperson for Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, confirmed to Fox News Digital that both aircraft were assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 129, also known as VAQ-129, out of Whidbey Island, Washington.

Umayam said all four air crew members ejected from the aircraft and were being evaluated by medical personnel after the crash. First responders remained at the scene as officials began investigating what caused the collision.

A video posted to social media appeared to show the two jets colliding in the air before four parachutes opened. The aircraft then fell to the ground and exploded, sending a large column of black smoke into the sky near the base.

Mountain Home Gunfighters acknowledged the incident in a Facebook statement earlier in the day.

“An aircraft incident has occurred at Mountain Home Air Force Base during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show two miles northwest of the base,” the statement said.

“Emergency responders are on the scene, an investigation is underway, and more details will be released as they become available,” the statement added.

Witnesses at the air show described the moment the aircraft appeared to collide, and one of the jets caught fire before going down.

David Katz, who attended the event with his family, told Fox News Digital that he was in a vehicle with his two sons when they saw the crash unfold.

“We saw the smoke and fireball,” Katz said. “Apparently, they collided there. One of the planes was impacted and started burning in the air.”

Katz said he saw four parachutes deploy after the collision, with two coming from each aircraft. He said people nearby were trying to determine whether the crew members had made it out safely as emergency personnel moved toward the crash site.

“Fire crews are flying by us right now,” Katz told Fox News Digital.

KTVB reported that witnesses described seeing two jets crash during the show and shared footage showing black smoke rising near Mountain Home Air Force Base.

The station also reported that law enforcement and emergency crews responded while officials worked to collect more information.

The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft in the F/A-18 Super Hornet family. The Navy uses the aircraft for airborne electronic attack missions.

The Gunfighter Skies Air Show was being held at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where the midair crash occurred about two miles northwest of the base.

Officials have not released additional details on the condition of the four crew members beyond confirming that they ejected and were being evaluated.
