While families across America spent Memorial Day honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey used the solemn occasion to push his usual brand of left wing virtue signaling.

Instead of paying tribute to fallen soldiers who have defended the freedoms we enjoy, Frey crafted a meandering social media post celebrating George Floyd.

“Today, we remember George Floyd, who was murdered by a former Minneapolis police officer six years ago,” Frey said on X.

“That moment changed our city forever. It forced Minneapolis to confront painful truths about race, policing, inequity, and trust, and demanded hard conversations and accountability. Since Floyd’s murder, our city has been challenged not just to say we’ve changed, but to prove it.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

One might think that Memorial Day would be an easy opportunity for any American leader to simply express gratitude for the service members who gave their lives in defense of liberty.

For Mayor Frey, however, the holiday apparently served as yet another platform to showcase political moralizing about race and policing.

His decision was as predictable as it was tone deaf.

Frey’s latest post was met with heavy criticism across social media, where his priorities were quickly called into question.

Many Americans saw the move as a complete disregard for the spirit of Memorial Day, a day reserved for remembering the countless men and women who died serving their country, not for rehashing political talking points.

Critics pointed out that Frey has yet to issue any similarly enthusiastic tribute to American soldiers.

For a man who found the time to reflect on George Floyd’s death on a national day of remembrance for the military, the absence of a post honoring America’s fallen heroes spoke volumes.

The silence was as noticeable as his eagerness to spotlight a moment that advanced his progressive political narrative.

It was not the first time Frey has turned public mourning into political theater.

Back in 2020, he famously kneeled before Floyd’s casket during the funeral that drew wall to wall media coverage.

The emotional display quickly became fodder for national cameras and cemented his reputation as one of the most performative voices in the Democratic ranks.

Critics have long accused him of preferring gestures over real results.

Meanwhile, many elected leaders on the right used Memorial Day to share heartfelt words of gratitude for service members and their families.

The contrast could not be sharper.

While President Donald Trump and numerous Republican leaders posted tributes that honored American bravery and sacrifice, Frey’s focus remained squarely on social justice symbolism.

For countless Americans who have lost loved ones in battle, Memorial Day is not about political grandstanding.

It is about reflection, humility, and gratitude. By hijacking that solemn moment to center his own preferred activist narrative, Frey essentially reminded everyone that woke politics leaves no sacred day untouched.

The reactions to Frey’s post were swift and unforgiving.

Across X and other social platforms, users accused him of disrespecting the memory of fallen soldiers and cheapening a national tradition.

Some noted that the mayor’s remarks continue to cater to far left activists who demand ideological loyalty tests at every turn.

Observers also noted the irony of Frey preaching accountability when crime, homelessness, and economic struggles have all increased under his leadership.

Minneapolis has endured years of dysfunction since the 2020 riots, with many neighborhoods still suffering the aftermath of the destruction that followed the Floyd protests.

Yet rather than address public safety or honor those who defend the nation, Frey opted to focus on the narrative that keeps the city politically divided.

It becomes increasingly clear that for many on the progressive left, patriotism now takes a back seat to identity politics.

Frey’s post fits perfectly into that pattern, in which even a day dedicated to commemorating America’s fallen heroes becomes another platform for virtue signaling.

The outrage he faces is not merely about one post but about an entire political mindset that sidesteps American pride in favor of ideological activism.

What should have been a simple message of gratitude toward soldiers who gave everything instead became yet another reminder of how detached the modern Democratic Party has become from basic expressions of patriotism.

Conservatives see this as symbolic of a deeper cultural problem, where leftist politicians treat national unity and military sacrifice as outdated relics rather than binding values.

By spending Memorial Day praising George Floyd instead of fallen warriors, Frey managed to remind everyone why voters are increasingly fed up with performative politics that elevate feelings over faith, gestures over grit, and ideology over America itself.

Minneapolis deserved better.

So did our heroes.
