Ed has all the numbers up here but asked me to watch for the race to be called early, something he expected not long after the polls closed. As usual it looks like Ed is going to be right. The early vote totals coming in show Ken Paxton blowing Cornyn away, including in counties where Cornyn was thought to be strong.
Here’s NBC’s Steve Kornacki being shocked by how strong Paxton’s performance has been so far.

That was about half an hour ago as I write this. Since then things only seem to have gotten better for Paxton. The expectation was that Cornyn would do better in the early vote than in the same-day vote. And that may still be true. The problem is that Cornyn is losing pretty badly in the early vote so the same day vote is even worse.

Anyone looking to run with the ‘Trump has lost Republicans’ story is going to have a hard time explaining this. The Speaker of the Texas House is essentially calling this for Paxton.

Polls haven’t closed in some parts of western Texas yet (El Paso polls close an hour later), but once they do expect to see race calls from the big media organizations coming in very quickly. As I write this that just a few more minutes away.
Cornyn is already prepping his concession speech.
John Cornyn is expected to give remarks in Austin in about 30 minutes to the assembled media, a sign that the night will be early and that the choice by the campaign not to have a party had been a good one.
And that’s it. At 6pm exactly the AP called the race for Paxton. And Decision Desk HQ also called the race the moment polls closed.

With 59% of the vote in, Paxton leads 63% to 37%. That 26% lead could continue to grow by the time this is all done.

More good news. Rep. Al Green has lost his primary. He’s done.
Al Green, who has been kicked out of the chamber multiple times for his theatrics, just lost the Democratic primary by 40 points.
