The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to maintain access to telehealth abortions is seemingly intensifying some pro-life activists’ dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s administration’s handling of abortion issues.

The Supreme Court’s May 14 ruling preserved access to abortions via telehealth, reportedly fueling further discontent among some pro-life activists who are urging the Trump administration to do more to support the pro-life movement. “We’re thankful for the pro-life action the Trump administration took early into the second term, but right now it is increasingly urgent that they settle Louisiana v. FDA,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a Wednesday statement. “Doing so would immediately put an end to the mail-order abortion regime by restoring in-person dispensing, all while the FDA does its promised thorough safety review of the drugs. This would save lives right away and help stop the emerging pattern of coercion and domestic abuse enabled by abortion by mail — where these powerful drugs now arrive as fast as an Amazon package.”

“The Supreme Court’s decision continues the nullification of pro-life laws, resulting in the deaths of 15,000 babies in states with pro-life laws every month and more women going to the ER for hemorrhage, infection and sepsis,” Dannenfelser continued. “The administration has the power to turn this ship around today by settling in LA v. FDA and ending mail-order abortion. This action would not only save lives and protect women, but galvanize pro-life voters going into the midterms when base turnout is paramount.”

Some pro-life activists met with White House officials in early May amid increasing concerns that the administration has not done enough to promote key priorities within the pro-life movement, such as tighter restrictions and stricter enforcement efforts, Reuters reported.

White House Spokeswoman Allison Schuster on Wednesday defended Trump in a statement provided to the DCNF, calling him “the most pro-life, pro-family President in American history, and it’s not even close.”

“It was his historic three Supreme Court appointments that made possible the overturning of Roe v. Wade after a decades-long struggle on behalf of conservatives,” Schuster added. “From day one, President Trump has taken bold action to safeguard life and uphold Americans’ fundamental freedoms, including ending the federal funding of abortion abroad. Under the President’s leadership, the FDA is actively responding to widespread concerns about mifepristone with a Gold Standard Science-based safety review, and the Trump Administration continues to engage with stakeholders and activists in this important community to advance the President’s pro-life agenda.”

Several Republican lawmakers sharply criticized Trump’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after the agency approved a new generic abortion drug in October 2025. Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley wrote in an Oct. 2, 2025 X post that the FDA “had promised to do a top-to-bottom safety review of the chemical abortion drug, but instead they’ve just greenlighted new versions of it for distribution,” adding that he has “lost confidence in the leadership” at the agency.

“The second Trump administration has worked to restore policies developed under President Trump’s first terms in office and even begun pointing women toward pregnancy centers,” an Americans United for Life spokesman told the DCNF. “It’s unfortunate, however, the administration has yet to right the tragic mail-order abortion policy established under the Biden-era FDA. Politics are for people, not the other way around, and until the Trump administration does the bare minimum to protect women from the abortion pill by restoring in-person dispensing requirements, the pro-life movement will continue to push for accountability.”

“The Supreme Court’s ruling only further delays assured justice,” the spokesman added. “The merits of the case still stand strong, unaddressed by the ruling, and there is no doubt that mail-order abortion is the culprit behind the harms brought forth by Louisiana. We don’t need to go back to the drawing board. The case moves forward, and movement leaders must continue pressing for federal enforcement of the Comstock Act and completion of the FDA review.”

Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas drew criticism from some pro-life advocates earlier in May over his previously being listed in court records as a counsel for a Planned Parenthood chapter in Florida. Though, Diamantas told several pro-life leaders that he had asked to be removed from the case defending the organization due to moral objections, Politico reported on May 15.

The Trump administration also faced scrutiny from some pro-life activists after it announced an extension of Title X grants to Planned Parenthood for an additional year amid legal challenges, The Daily Wire first reported in March.

The Trump administration has taken some steps to crack down on abortion access across the nation. The administration announced in March it is investigating thirteen states for allegedly mandating that insurance providers have to cover abortion.

Trump also issued an executive order in January 2025 seeking to “end the use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.”

The Small Business Administration (SBA) in January issued letters to 38 Planned Parenthood affiliates requiring them to present documentation to prove they were eligible to secure over $88 million in pandemic-era relief via the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program while the program was operational, according to a news release.

Trump suggested in April 2024 that abortion legislation should be left up to the states, CNN reported.

Additionally, a Lozier Institute report released Tuesday estimated that eight online-only organizations in the U.S. are currently violating pro-life state laws by shipping abortion drugs into those states.
