Another Day, Another Example of Gun Control Laws Not Working in Anti-Gun Jurisdiction

Over and over again, we’re told that gun control works. Other people repeat it like it’s some kind of shibboleth, evidence that they belong in polite society. It’s taken as a matter of faith and fact, strangely enough, by all of the usual suspects and a whole lot of other people who simply don’t know any better.

The problem is that it’s absolute nonsense, and we’ve got plenty of examples that show just why it’s nonsense.

Today’s unfortunate example comes from the nation’s capital, where the district’s extensive gun control laws accomplished approximately jack squat.

Investigators said the men were with a group of people in a fenced-in utility area on the church’s property toward the back of the building. Officers said at least one person in the group opened fire, hitting the two men, before taking off. Police did not say what might have sparked the gunfire.

As police were questioning people at the church, officers said they spotted a 16-year-old boy carrying two backpacks. Investigators said they ultimately found the boy had two guns. He was arrested and faces charges of carrying a pistol without a license, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

Now, let’s understand that a 16-year-old isn’t old enough to buy any firearm lawfully, much less a handgun. This is under federal law, too, so he couldn’t buy one as a resident of some other state, then bring it into the district later on. Even if he were a couple of years older, though, he still couldn’t have bought a handgun under that law. A rifle? Sure. A pistol? Nope.

And, of course, he had two firearms just the same.

Plus, despite the ban on so-called high-capacity magazines in the District of Columbia, which has been on the books for ages now, he got one of those, too, easily enough.

Now, most stores aren’t carding people for magazine purchases, so he might have left the district and gotten one of those in a state where they’re legal, but he still brought it into the district. That’s a no-no.

Why, it’s almost like gun control doesn’t stop people from having guns when they’re not supposed to; it only inhibits those who are inclined to follow the rules in the first place. Because they’re going to follow the rules, though, they also follow the rules about not robbing, raping, and killing people, too.

Let’s understand that I see stories like this daily. I don’t write about all of them because, even if I could, it would take all the bandwidth that’s currently used to run all of the Townhall family of sites, and then some. I wouldn’t have time to write about anything else. Or shower. Or eat.

Yes, because it happens that much.

But time and time again, we’re told that gun control works and that these stories are the anomalies, the leftovers that exist only because we didn’t gun control hard enough.

Spare me.

It’s a failed policy that’s only propped up because there are people as gullibly stupid as Michael Bloomberg willing to pour billions into it, thus making anti-gun advocacy profitable.
