Axios: House Dems Shocked, Shocked to Find DemSoc In Their Casino

Suuuuuuure, pal. Sure they are. 

Over the past few years, establishment Democrats have given rides to Democratic Socialist scorpions to suit their demagogic purposes. They wanted to co-opt the energy from worshipers of Stalin, Mao, and Che in order to help feed into their electoral battles against Donald Trump and MAGA activists. The loss in 2024 of both the Electoral College and the popular vote should have alerted them to the dangers of playing footsie with radicals, especially in promising them what could not be delivered. 

Suddenly, the scorpions have begun to sting the Democrat Party frogs. Now, Axios reports this morning that they are “staggered” by their mounting losses to the communist insurgency they groomed:

House Democrats were staggered Wednesday by the loss of yet another one of their longtime colleagues to a democratic socialist challenger.

Why it matters: Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) was a staunch progressive, not a moderate, these members are privately fuming. So why did she become a target of the left?

• “One more case in the growing dynamic of performative politics,” one House Democrat, speaking on the condition of anonymity to share candid analysis on the results, told Axios.
• “Diana was an excellent representative with seniority — but the style of someone younger and more outspoken has become more attractive to that cohort of motivated urban left voters.”
• A senior House Democrat called the result a “wake-up call” for members of Congress

Just how “staggered” could they possibly be? Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have pushed the DSA agenda for years. The Democrat Party endorsed Zohran Mamdani, who was an outright DSA member at the time. A few years ago, the party’s leadership threatened AOC and the Squad for promoting Justice Democrats’ attempts to unseat Democrat incumbents in primaries, but in this cycle, they haven’t said a word about it. 

The same Democrats who claim to be “staggered” by these results have spent the last several years playing footsie with these radical revolutionaries. In fact, nearly all of them adopted the language of revolution as soon as Donald Trump took the oath of office in January 2017, calling themselves “The Resistance.” Democrats, including their leadership, have conducted themselves in a revolutionary manner ever since, using obstruction and corrupt prosecutions in attempts to destroy Trump. 

Is there any wonder how the revolutionaries got their nose inside the Democrat tent? “I told everyone that would listen in 2024,” one House Democrat told Axios, “that Trump winning was like manna from heaven to DSA.” Of course it was; Democrats from Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer had set the party up for a radical reaction if they failed to stop the Orange Man Bad, and they fumbled their way right into it. 

Even now, the party refuses to deal with its own failures. Rather than organize an effort to sideline radical communist revolutionaries, its leaders are rolling out red carpets instead. Ro Khanna campaigns on their behalf, even when the candidate bore a Nazi tattoo for almost two decades and has credible allegations of domestic violence in the public record. The party’s previous nominee wants to make Mamdani and the DSA her allies. Shumer and Hakeem Jeffries won’t even address the danger publicly, because they want power more than they want to prevent radical revolutionaries from accessing it. 

Every single Democrat expressing shock, shock over the way their revolutionary posing has created a real risk of revolution deserves a Captain Louis Renault Award. They deserve a lot more than that, but let’s start with this.
