Bodycam footage from the NYPD has revealed the moment a pair of self-proclaimed daredevils found themselves in police custody after scaling the Empire State Building for what they thought would be a romantic, high-flying engagement.

The couple, identified as Angela Nikolau, 33, and Ivan Kuznetsov, 32, captured international attention when they climbed to the antenna of the iconic Manhattan skyscraper and shared a kiss more than one thousand four hundred feet above the streets of New York City.

The newly engaged couple’s adventure came to an abrupt halt when officers from the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit tracked them down near the antenna and detained them on the spot.

Bodycam recordings show an officer approaching the couple, clearly out of breath from the climb, saying, “Hey I got eyes on ’em. How you doing? You can’t be up here!” as Nikolau can be heard replying calmly, “I’m okay.”

The footage, which was later shared by Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on social media, was presented as “a glimpse into the work of our Emergency Services Unit.”

Her post highlighted both the dangers that officers face in responding to bizarre calls like this and the astonishing patience it takes to handle thrill seekers who risk their lives for viral fame.

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year

The Empire State Building remains one of New York’s most recognizable symbols, with strict rules against unauthorized access.

Despite heavy security measures, the couple managed to make their way to the top, bypassing barriers, guards, and every ounce of common sense before making what turned into a worldwide spectacle.

According to police reports, the Russian pair are known for scaling tall buildings around the globe and sharing the footage online for millions of social media followers.

Nikolau and Kuznetsov have built a following by performing gravity-defying stunts without safety equipment, treating skyscrapers like playgrounds and putting first responders at risk when their so-called adventures inevitably go wrong.

Nikolau, who calls herself an “urban explorer,” has made a reputation for walking along narrow ledges and taking high-altitude selfies.

Her online followers thrill at her fearlessness, but authorities describe it as recklessness that invites tragedy.

Kuznetsov, known online for similar feats, proposed to her at the very top of the Empire State Building’s antenna after the climb, turning a dangerous act into an engagement spectacle that left law enforcement shaking their heads.

The incident adds to a growing pattern of social media daredevils treating landmarks and restricted sites like personal playgrounds.

Many city officials have publicly condemned these acts, calling them not only reckless but disrespectful to both law enforcement and the history of these sites.

Security teams invest countless hours and resources to keep landmarks safe, and such trespassing turns those efforts into a sideshow for online fame.

Video from the climb shows the couple embracing and celebrating their engagement, but within minutes, they are surrounded by NYPD officers.

The romantic stunt quickly turned into an arrest scene, though the couple remained surprisingly calm as police detained them.

The NYPD has yet to clarify what charges the couple may face, but trespassing and potential public safety violations are likely on the list.

Officers reportedly removed the pair safely without injury, a fortunate outcome considering the height and hazards involved.

The Empire State Building’s management released a statement thanking law enforcement for their swift action and reminding visitors that such stunts are not permitted under any circumstances.

“Our top priority is safety, both for guests and the officers who protect this landmark every day,” the statement read.

While online thrill seekers celebrated the couple’s bravery, many New Yorkers reacted with less enthusiasm.

Residents who live near the site expressed frustration that taxpayer dollars were once again spent dealing with another social media spectacle rather than focusing on serious crime in the city.

The couple’s global following will likely embrace this as another bold stunt, but for the police tasked with rescuing and arresting them, it was another unnecessary risk played out thousands of feet in the air.

The NYPD video has gone viral, offering everyone a clear look at what happens when love and lawless thrill seeking collide at dizzying heights.

One thing seems certain: as long as social media rewards dangerous showmanship, more attention seekers will try similar antics.

The NYPD’s footage may serve as a warning, but in the age of viral fame, it might be more of a badge of honor for those chasing clicks rather than common sense.
