Another Day, Another Example of New York Gun Control Failing Spectacularly

New York governor Kathy Hochul was one of those politicians who was pro-gun when it was convenient for her, then flipped like a switch when she decided to run for statewide office. We know this is what she truly wants, versus just being politically acceptable, because of how much attention she focuses on it while there are actual problems in her state.

She and her fellow travelers like to pretend that gun control works swimmingly. In fact, find an anti-gunner who will admit that gun control doesn’t work. Go on, I dare ya.

Obviously, anyone who thought that wouldn’t push for more of it, I suppose, but it’s still a push and still a claim.

An arrest in Hochul’s New York sure as hell shows how full of it they all are, though.

New York State Police said they responded to a report of a physical altercation involving a gun in the area of William and Queen streets in Lyons at 4:56 p.m. June 30.

Police said a verbal dispute had escalated into a fight, during which one person inside the vehicle pulled a gun and threatened the victim while preventing others from intervening.

Troopers found the suspect vehicle and made a traffic stop on Geneva Street in Lyons. Police said they detained all five occupants and searched the vehicle, recovering two loaded handguns — including one equipped with a conversion kit and laser attachment — and a loaded .45-caliber pistol reported stolen by the Rochester Police Department in September 2024. They also recovered multiple high-capacity magazines and ammunition.

I’m pretty sure the “conversion kit” is a full-auto switch, and the laser attachment is kind of a whatever sort of thing. It’s probably from Temu and doesn’t work worth a damn, but whatever. The fact that they also had a gun stolen from the cops is both wild and hilarious, though there’s no mention of where the other two handguns originated, nor the origin of the “high-capacity magazines.”

It should also be noted that New York has a background check requirement for ammo sales. Kind of makes you wonder how they got that ammunition, doesn’t it?

I’ve got a ton of ideas about how they got it, though, much like I have some decent ideas about how they got the guns. It’s not rocket science to get around any of the state or federal gun control laws on the books, after all, so it’s really a matter of picking which one seems most likely. I’m guessing theft of the guns and a straw buy on the ammo, but it could be something else.

Still, gun control, we’re told, is supposed to prevent this sort of thing. It’s supposed to keep guns out of the hands of such people. Clearly, neither gun control nor the ammo control laws seemed to do much of anything here, and these aren’t master criminals. These are five guys who couldn’t control themselves enough to not get into a fist fight in public.

If they can get guns, who can’t?

I’ll answer that for you, though. The law-abiding, that’s who. They don’t tend to run in the same circles as the street crooks do, and so they don’t know who is selling them illegally, so if the lawful supply were to vanish, the bad guys are the only ones who won’t be impacted.

Again, it’s not rocket science.
