Going into Saturday’s women’s title match at Wimbledon, there was no question where the champion would hail from this year.

That’s because it was an all-Czech battle between Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova, but only one of them would be heading home a winner.

This year, that was Noskova.

The 21-year-old had never been past the quarterfinals in a Grand Slam until her run this year at Wimbledon, and she topped her countrywoman in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

She was still wiping away tears after the tough loss when she was asked for her thoughts.

“It’s really hard to find any words, but I’ll start with Linda, my ex-friend,” she joked, which got a big laugh from the crowd in attendance.

When Noksova took the mic, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as she thanked her late mother.

“There’s also one more person I’d like to thank, which is my mom,” she said. “I definitely would not be standing here without her, so thank you.”
