CNN Analyst Shreds New York Mayor’s Absurd Plan To Arrest Netanyahu [WATCH]

CNN’s own legal analyst had to step in and clean up a political mess after New York City’s far-left Mayor Zohran Mamdani floated the jaw-dropping idea that the city might have the power to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits for the United Nations General Assembly.

Yes, you read that correctly.

The socialist mayor publicly claimed his administration was “exploring” whether such an arrest could happen.

During a segment on CNN, Brianna Keilar asked legal analyst Elie Honig about Mamdani’s outrageous suggestion.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Honig did not hold back. “Absolutely not,” he replied bluntly.

“It is utterly ridiculous for the mayor of New York City to even suggest that he might have the authority to order the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu or any visiting foreign head of state.”

Honig went on to explain a basic civics lesson that apparently escaped Mamdani’s attention.

“The mayor of New York City has zero law enforcement authority. He does not tell the Manhattan D.A. or the NYPD who to arrest or prosecute,” Honig said.

He added that the United States is not a party to the International Criminal Court, meaning any so-called “arrest warrant” from the ICC has no legal effect here.

Honig made clear the United States even has a law on the books that allows the president to send in the military to extract any American or ally from ICC custody if they were ever detained under its orders. “So, that warrant has zero impact,” Honig said plainly.

Then came another dose of constitutional education.

“The Constitution is quite clear that the conduct of foreign diplomacy and foreign affairs is entirely up to the federal government. It is not up to local or county governments in New York City or elsewhere.”

In other words, Mamdani’s “best lawyers” can stop wasting taxpayer time.

He has no authority to arrest anyone on behalf of the global left’s political crusade against Israel.

“Let me save them some time,” Honig concluded.

“You do not have the authority to do this.”

Despite this scathing legal smackdown, Mamdani has doubled down.

He called Netanyahu a “war criminal” who “belongs in The Hague” and said his administration is in “active conversation” with the city’s Law Department to see what can be done if the Israeli leader visits.

“Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that’s what we will do,” Mamdani vowed.

As if he needed to solidify his radical reputation, Mamdani repeated his inflammatory claim that Netanyahu is the “architect of the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.”

He insisted that the ICC arrest warrants “should be taken seriously,” adding that when someone is charged by the ICC, “that’s something that should be honored.”

The only problem for Mamdani is that the ICC’s reach stops where American sovereignty begins.

The ICC issued warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant last November over alleged war crimes during Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza.

The United States never joined the ICC for good reason. The court has long been accused of targeting Western and democratic nations while giving brutal dictatorships a pass.

But that nuance seems lost on Mamdani, whose politics appear guided more by activist slogans than by law.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz sharply criticized Mamdani’s floating of arrest fantasies.

Waltz called the mayor’s statements “pure political theater” and reminded him that under international agreements, visiting heads of state are protected.

“Federal authority trumps any local mayor’s wishes,” Waltz wrote on X.

The episode highlights just how extreme the new left in America has become.

The modern progressive movement cannot resist using city offices as soapboxes for anti-Israel theatrics.

It is one thing to express an opinion. It is another to pretend to wield federal-level foreign policy powers from a city hall podium.

Even CNN, which rarely restrains Democrat excess, found Mamdani’s behavior too absurd to defend.

For a network that usually protects its ideological allies, this moment stood out.

That should tell Americans just how out-of-bounds this mayor’s comments truly were.

It is increasingly obvious that far-left politicians like Mamdani care more about grandstanding than governing.

While New York struggles with crime, housing, and a spiraling migrant crisis, Mamdani is worried about what to do if a foreign prime minister visits town.

It is yet another reminder of what happens when ideological activism replaces common sense leadership.

New York voters deserve better than political vanity projects dressed up as moral crusades.

Honig’s rebuke serves as a rare moment of sanity coming from inside CNN.

The rest of the media class should take note when even their own experts say the emperor has no clothes.
