Not so long ago, I suggested that Hunter Biden is testing the waters for a presidential run.
I was half joking, half not, as Mr. Biden has spent an inordinate amount of time out in public and on podcasts discussing politics and other matters, despite his claims that he is not running for office.
I’m not the only one who has noticed.

Discussion about a potential Biden run is still confined to the fringes, but Biden himself has been out and about quite a bit, appearing on podcasts, promoting his paintings, talking about addiction (ah, a redemption story!), and opining about politics.
A lot of opining about politics. Doing so enough that fellow Democrat and presidential candidate Gavin Newsom is joking about it.

If throwing around the F-Bomb is the new sign of genuineness, as all Democrats seem to believe, Hunter has that trait down in spades. Unlike most of his Democratic Party competitors, he pulls it off in a genuine fashion, too. You truly believe it when he drops the F-bomb as every third word.

Hunter Biden is on a media blitz campaign, using far-right influencers with millions of social media followers to promote his brand and hawk his new collection of art work — which is going for eye-popping sums, sources told The Post.
According to the operations manager of the “Hunter Biden Studio,” Biden is selling a 36-by-36-inch canvas, “Watchers,” for $54,000 — “and every sale includes a private video call with Hunter, in which he speaks personally about the painting.”
And sources say he has recently appeared on the podcasts of extremists like Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens not as some great defender of liberal values — but to prop up his stalled art career.
“Hunter doing the podcaster thing is all about getting notoriety and part of that media strategy is promoting his art,” said a source who is close to the Biden family. “He is going where there is controversy. He knows that if he pitches podcasters on the left, no one would care what he has to say. He’s completely pissed off the left.”
Since launching his media campaign in May, the scandal-scarred former first son has already accumulated 335,000 followers on Instagram, where he describes himself as an artist, author and “recovery advocate.”
He also uses the social media platform to tease his near daily musings on Substack, where last week he said he had to go into hiding after The Post’s exclusive reporting on his abandoned laptop, which broke a few weeks before the 2020 presidential election.
“What began as a tabloid exclusive hardened into a political artifact,” Biden writes, adding that he went underground after father Joe Biden won the election. “That transformation is the part that matters most to understand now. It changed daily life in small ways first. I stopped going into the grocery store. Melissa [his second wife] would go in alone while I stayed in the car with [son] Beau.”
Now, Biden claims he’s not holding back, blasting President Trump and others on social media. He recently sat down with Fuentes in a Philadelphia hotel room for an interview that nearly resulted in a physical altercation, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The interview was brokered by YouTube personality Andrew Callaghan, and is reportedly scheduled to air later this month.
One of Biden’s associates speculated that the former first son might be leveraging his newfound celebrity for a political run.
“I think he has always had that at the back of his mind,” the associate told The Post.
Of course, Biden might just be genuinely trying to revive his struggling art career, and for all I know, that isn’t a lost cause. Liberals love crappy art, and the cache of owning an original Biden might attract people. But I doubt it, since his art career went off the rails when his dad’s career did, just as every other Hunter Biden business did.

Maybe Biden is hoping to generate more than 15 minutes of fame by leveraging his notoriety into a serious online following, tapping into the cynicism of the young and groypy, and getting enough clicks to live off of. You’d be surprised how much an “influencer” can make, and if you look at Andrew Tate, you can see how the potential lifestyle could appeal to Hunter.
…despite his refreshing political commentary, I’m not sure we should be treating the man as a folk hero or a Maga whisperer quite yet. It seems to me Hunter’s comeback isn’t so much motivated by political ambitions as by his millions of dollars of debt. He’s always been good at capitalising on his last name, and I suspect he’s realised he can parlay being provocative online into monetisable opportunities. To that end, Hunter has been going on every podcast that will have him, including sitting down with the far-right conspiracy theorist Candace Owens and the white nationalist Nick Fuentes. He’s also launched a paid Substack called Where’s Hunter? (a reference to one of Trump’s favourite catchphrases) and joked about starting an OnlyFans.
Running an online brothel would be a natural for Mr. Biden.
But I do actually think he is testing the waters. He talks enough about politics that it would be a natural fit, and politics has been a great business for his family, which has lived off the reflected glory of Slow Joe.
If nothing else, Biden has survived the worst scandals that any candidate has had to face. What new could you throw at him? It’s all old news.
I doubt that many Democratic Party officeholders are thrilled that Hunter is inserting himself into the public conversation, but no Biden has ever shown much interest in what is good for anybody but themselves. And frankly, the party has plenty enough to worry about with the DSA breathing down their necks.
