Gun control advocates continue to maintain that gun control works, that passing laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms on law-abiding citizens somehow keeps criminals from getting guns. They even have (incredibly flawed and unserious) studies that “prove” this.

Yeah, right.

Of course, it might be easier to believe that if I didn’t see countless news reports every single day of the week regarding felons being arrested for possessing firearms, to say nothing of other things like drugs. In fact, I suspect most such arrests never really make the news unless the arrest included something else.

Like, say, the illicit ingredient found in “bath salts.”

Bronson Gary Dean, age 51, of Duchesne, a previously convicted felon, was charged on July 7.

Court documents state that on Feb. 23, 2026, officers with the North Salt Lake Police Department pulled Dean over for committing a traffic violation. An officer reportedly noticed items that appeared to be drug paraphernalia and ordered Dean to exit the vehicle.

They seized baggies, a digital scale with powder residue, marijuana, and large containers containing laboratory-grade glassware, including a “three-bottle neck flask, miscellaneous flasks, condenser tubing, and other volume measuring type glassware,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Utah.

They also found a backpack that contained “a yellowish granular-type substance” and a black .45-caliber Kahr CW45 handgun, which had been reported stolen.

That granular-type substance was confirmed by the DEA to be alpha-pyrrolidinopentiophenone (Alpha-PVP), which is the illegal ingredient in so-called bath salts. Additionally, the glassware was used in the manufacturing of the Alpha-PVP.

Because nothing quite hits like selling something that might lead to a customer eating some dude’s face off.

Yeah, this is the same stuff.

I guess Dean allegedly had the gun in case he accidentally sparked The Walking Dead? If so, I get it, but it was still illegal for him to have it. Since he was making a blatantly illegal substance in violation of federal law, though, I don’t think any of us can be surprised by this.

The truth is that if we were to report on every such example we’ve seen, we wouldn’t have the time or bandwidth to report on anything else. Again, the reports are typically a felon in possession and something else, something exciting enough to warrant the news bothering to report it, despite every federal regulation on the books prohibiting them from getting one.

“Yeah, but too many states have loopholes that let criminals buy guns by pretending they’re not criminals,” someone might say, which one could argue is true of a face-to-face transfer, which is legal throughout most of the nation.

However, since I see these all the time in states like New York, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, and so on, I don’t buy that so-called logic in the least. I mean, I wrote about one in California just yesterday, and that guy made headlines because he also had a pipe bomb.

The gun control laws don’t stop the criminals. It’s never stopped the criminals. Considering the lax sentencing we keep seeing in so many places, it’s kind of hard to see these people having any issue with criminals.

It’s about you. It’s always been about disarming people like you, because deep down, they all know that criminals aren’t walking into gun stores.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
