Wild Video Captures Giant Bison Flattening Tourist, Refusing to Let Him Escape [WATCH]

A tourist learned a brutal lesson about respecting wildlife after a massive bison charged him in a Polish forest, knocked him flat, and refused to let him get back on his feet.

The terrifying encounter was captured on video as stunned witnesses scrambled to save the man from an even worse mauling, as reported by The New York Post.

The unidentified tourist was standing only about 20 feet from the enormous animal in Poland’s Białowieża Forest last Monday, according to local outlet TVP World.

That distance may have seemed safe to the visitor, but the bison clearly had a very different opinion.

Without much warning, the hulking creature surged toward the man and slammed him to the ground.

Video shared on social media shows the bison looming over the fallen tourist like a living wall of muscle, making it painfully clear who controlled the situation.

The man remained on the forest floor while the animal stood guard above him.

When he tried to rise, the bison quickly swiped at him and shoved him down again, delivering a second reminder that wild animals do not care about vacation plans or camera footage.

Nature photographer Grzegorz Ryński recorded the frightening scene and immediately recognized the danger.

He shouted at the tourist not to move, hoping the man would remain still rather than provoke another charge from the powerful animal.

Ryński then used his vehicle as a barrier between the tourist and the bison.

He slowly drove toward the animal with the car door open, creating an opportunity for the injured man to climb inside and escape without making another reckless move.

The tourist, however, appeared dazed and frightened after being knocked around. Instead of entering the vehicle, he attempted to flee on foot, forcing Ryński to reverse slowly beside him while keeping the car positioned between the man and the bison.

That improvised rescue continued until the pair had created enough distance from the animal. Considering the size and strength of a European bison, the photographer’s calm response may have prevented a frightening encounter from becoming a fatal one.

Ryński later argued that the animal should not be blamed for reacting to a person who had wandered dangerously close.

“We shouldn’t blame the bison. The man was actually very lucky because this particular animal was quite calm. There are much more aggressive individuals,” Ryński told a broadcaster, TVN24, per the outlet.

Calling an animal calm after it flattened a grown man twice might sound generous, but the photographer knows the species and its capabilities.

A more aggressive bison could have continued charging, goring, or trampling the tourist before anyone had time to intervene.

Ryński’s wife, Aneta, also witnessed the attack and described the tourist’s injuries.

She said the man suffered a deep gash to his calf, along with severe bruising, and had to be transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Her warning was simple and should not require a wilderness survival manual to understand. “A bison is a wild animal. If a person gets too close, the animal may feel threatened and attack,” she said.

Białowieża Forest sits along Poland’s border with Belarus and provides refuge for about 1,176 free-range European bison.

The animals are an extraordinary sight, but their presence does not transform the forest into a petting zoo for tourists searching for the perfect close photograph.

European bison are powerful creatures capable of inflicting devastating injuries within seconds.

Wildlife officials routinely urge visitors to maintain a safe distance because animals that appear calm can suddenly charge when they feel crowded, threatened, or blocked.

Similar warnings are issued in the United States, particularly at Yellowstone National Park.
