They’re Spoiled Brats: DSA Bigwigs Not Doing Well Under the Klieg Lights

The DSA is in the spotlight, and it is not going well for them. 

Obviously, they are riding high, winning high-profile elections, which gives the impression that things are going swimmingly; but the paradox is that the more successful they are, the more people begin to pay attention to them. And aside from a few Deep Blue seats where all you need is the right identity to win, DSA candidates have not actually been tested. 

But the DSA leadership is being tested already. As their candidates rise in prominence, DSA leaders are being put to the test by, of all people, the midwits in Pravda, and they are coming off looking quite stupid. 

By that I don’t mean that their ideas are stupid — nobody in Pravda cares much about that, unless it will harm the political prospects of the Democrat Party. 

No, I mean the actual people who lead the Democratic Socialists of America. To say they have the political sophistication and depth of college sophomores at a third-rate college is being far too kind to them. These people are STUPID. Midwits have IQs around 115-120, which makes them above average in language fluidity. They are not so much stupid as sufferers of the Dunning-Kruger effect; they think they are smarter and wiser than they are, and will never be smart enough to realize they barely understand complicated topics.

Trust me, you would much rather be governed by people of average intelligence than by midwits; they tend to have the wisdom to listen to others and grapple with complex topics until they genuinely understand them. The most dangerous people in the world are midwits and some geniuses, both classes of which are convinced they understand everything.

DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer says “We believe in taxing the hell out of millionaires.”

She then struggles to explain what that actually means:

Remnick: “What does ‘taxing the hell out of them’ mean?”

Romer: “Yeah. You know, again, I don’t have, like, a solid…”

Remnick: “But shouldn’t you?”

Romer: “Ummmmm, that’s a good question.”

Remnick: “If you’re the co-chair of the DSA, shouldn’t you be more specific than just taxing the hell out of something? What exactly do you mean?”

Romer: “So again, it’s democracy, right?…”

This is the Democrat party ‘Big Tent.’

All of this explains so much.

It’s striking to see people who are in positions of genuine responsibility — sort of, at least — who are this stupid. Some are, admittedly, midwits, but for the most part they are incapable of matching wits with even journalists.

They have never had to think more deeply than “I don’t like that, so it is bad.” AOC is sort of in that category, although I can’t decide whether she is stupid or a midwit with stupid ideas. But these DSA folks are just plain stupid.

Yes, I know that doesn’t speak that well of me, but what can I say? She shows symptoms of both afflictions. 

If you catch clips of Megan Romer’s interview with David Remnick of The New Yorker, you can’t escape the sense that she is so far out of her depth without knowing it that she probably needs somebody to feed and change her.

She is, of course, a self-identified communist and, amusingly, a “ruling elder” in the Presbyterian Church. She loves leadership roles, I suppose, and there are enough stupid or lazy people who are willing to give them to her.

DSA’s Megan Romer really soft-pedals democratic centralism here.

She brushes off the “oh, like Stalin?” reaction and says, “It just means we make a decision democratically and then we do the thing. That’s all it means.”

But within minutes, she’s talking about organizational discipline, “non-negotiable” beliefs, everyone defending the platform, and DSA moving in tandem like a party.

You can vote. But once the decision is made, fall in line. Don’t be the squeaky wheel, or you’re outside “the clique.”

The one very good thing about the attention being paid to the DSA bigwigs as opposed to their candidates is that the true nature of the movement is finally getting attention. All the candidates are shills, as you can see by the fact that they all put on a mask when they go out (except Francesca Hong, who is too stupid to carry it off). Most are “of color,” despite the DSA being white as the powder on the wigs of French aristocracy in the Ancien Régime, and they have been chosen by people like Morris Katz as beards to fool people. 

It is not impossible that even in Michigan Abdul El-Sayed could win; he is a cut above the other DSA candidates in terms of intelligence and facility with words, which always counts for something. 

But his Achilles heel is that he is tied to these halfwits and to people like Hasan Piker and the Muslim Brotherhood, and those don’t sell well. The only thing that gives him a chance is a pervasive sourness toward Trump at the moment.

If this isn’t disqualifying, what is?

You can’t escape the reality that the DSA is filled with misfits; people who have far exceeded the Peter Principle in life; by dint of luck, tenacity, or generous parents or a trust fund, these people have risen in political influence far beyond their capacity to contribute anything useful to public life. 

That’s a kind way of saying they are dangerous as hell. Give power to DSA members is, as P.J. O’Rourke would say, like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.
