House Star Hugh Laurie Firmly Backs WNBA’s Sophie Cunningham, Says Men Should Not Compete Against Women

House star Hugh Laurie has publicly voiced his support for WNBA star Sophie Cunningham while making his position on men competing against women unmistakably clear.

The actor addressed the issue during a pointed exchange on social media, as reported by Breitbart.

Laurie became involved in a dispute with British comedian, writer, producer, and anti transgender activist Graham Linehan.

The exchange intensified after Linehan demanded that Laurie state his view about transgender athletes more directly.

The discussion followed a message Laurie posted on August 9 about professional basketball and the physical characteristics of NBA players.

His post approached the broader argument with a pointed observation about height and the likelihood of reaching the league.

Laurie wrote, “Strange this whole broigus should happen in professional basketball, where 99.9% of the world are, effectively, ‘women’. Per Pablo Torre of Sports Illustrated, if you’re an American man between 20 and 40 years of age and 7 feet tall or more, there’s a 17% chance you’re already in the NBA.”

The word “broigus” is a Yiddish term meaning an argument or bitter dispute. Laurie used it while describing the controversy unfolding around professional basketball.

Linehan evidently did not believe Laurie had been sufficiently straightforward about his opinion on transgender athletes.

Therefore, he pressed the actor to explain his position more clearly rather than leaving his initial remarks open to interpretation.

Linehan demanded that Laurie directly say whether he supported transgender athletes. He also described it as “cowardly” for Laurie to “distance yourself” from the question instead of delivering an explicit answer.

That accusation drew a blunt response from Laurie, who rejected both the characterization and the idea that his position had been unclear.

He answered Linehan directly and left no doubt about where he stood on men competing against women.

The exchange did not end there, as Linehan questioned why Laurie had told him to fuck off. He also continued pressing the actor to say directly whether he supported the WNBA player at the center of the discussion.

Laurie then explained that his harsh response was prompted by Linehan having called him “cowardly.” At the same time, he gave the direct declaration of support that Linehan had demanded.

That final message made Laurie’s stance explicit on both points raised during the dispute.

He said he supports Sophie Cunningham and does not believe men should compete against women, while also offering limited support for Linehan.

The social media confrontation came after Linehan faced legal trouble in the UK. Last year, Linehan was arrested by the UK over what was described as the comedian’s “hate speech” in his social media posts.

Linehan discussed the arrest on his Substack last September and criticized the authorities’ response. He contrasted the resources used to arrest him with other crimes and threats he said were affecting the country.

By the end of the dispute, Laurie had delivered an unmistakable answer. The House star publicly supported Sophie Cunningham and clearly stated that he does not believe men should compete against women.
