The radical left has spent years excusing hostility, disorder, and ideological intimidation whenever those tactics served its political agenda.

Now that same poison is consuming the Democratic Party from within, with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel openly declaring that she fears attending her own party convention.

Nessel, a Jewish Democrat and hardly a conservative critic of progressive politics, announced that she will not attend the Michigan Democratic Party nominating convention later this month.

Her reason is brutally revealing: She does not believe her own party can provide a safe or respectful environment.

Gold. Upgraded. Buy real gold from $1. Store it in America. Sell it with one click.

During an interview with MS Now, Nessel described years of antisemitic threats aimed at her and other Jewish elected officials.

She said the abuse began when she entered office in 2019, years before the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel intensified antisemitic agitation across the political left.

Nessel also argued that basic civil discourse has deteriorated inside Michigan Democratic politics.

“But in addition to that, what we’ve seen in the Democratic Party as of late here in Michigan is that we’re not seeing the same kind of civil discourse that we used to be able to have and the ability to have a diversity of ideas and opinions that are respected.”

That is quite an indictment coming from one of Michigan’s most prominent Democrat officials.

The party that endlessly lectures Americans about tolerance apparently cannot guarantee tolerance for Jewish members within its own gathering.

When Nessel was asked directly whether Michigan Democrats were doing enough to confront the growing problem, she did not offer the usual carefully polished political evasion.

“I would say absolutely they’re not.”

Her answer exposed a glaring double standard involving five Democratic Party members charged with acts of antisemitic vandalism, harassment, and threats.

The alleged conduct included an attack targeting the Jewish Federation of Detroit, along with threats directed at Democratic officials, including Jewish officeholders.

Despite those serious pending charges, the accused individuals are reportedly still permitted to attend the convention.

Nessel, meanwhile, is staying away because she fears the radical atmosphere surrounding the event and the people whom party leaders continue to accommodate.

“It’s just baffling to me that while these charges are pending, they’re going to be allowed to be there despite these credible charges against them,” Nessel said.

Baffling is one word for it, although politically convenient cowardice might describe the party’s conduct more accurately.

On June 10, the Justice Department announced the indictment of eight people connected with the University of Michigan.

Federal prosecutors allege that they participated in conspiracies targeting university leaders, police officers, businesses, and the Jewish Federation.

According to prosecutors, members of the group researched prospective targets and gathered information about their families.

They allegedly vandalized homes and businesses, shattered windows, left threatening messages, and threw glass jars containing butyric acid and dye into private residences.

These are not allegations involving heated social media arguments or impolite convention speeches.

They describe an organized campaign of intimidation aimed at institutions, public officials, private citizens, and Jewish community targets.

Yet Democratic leaders appear more concerned about avoiding conflict with their activist base than drawing a firm moral boundary.

That base has grown increasingly comfortable using rage, harassment, and public disruption while party officials look away or offer vague statements about dialogue.

Nessel’s decision leaves Michigan Democrats in an embarrassing position of their own making.

A sitting attorney general from their party believes staying home is safer, while people facing credible criminal allegations remain welcome to participate in the convention.

The episode also demolishes the Democratic Party’s familiar claim that it is the nation’s defender against hatred and political extremism.

When the threat comes from activists on the left, the supposedly fearless guardians of democracy suddenly discover excuses, procedural talking points, and an urgent need for silence.

Michigan Democrats had an opportunity to show that antisemitic intimidation carries real consequences.

Instead, they produced a spectacle in which accused radicals can enter the convention while a Jewish statewide official refuses to attend because she fears what her party has allowed to flourish.

The modern Democratic coalition is discovering what happens when leaders indulge extremists for political convenience.

Eventually, the mob stops targeting only conservatives and turns on Democrats who refuse to repeat every radical slogan on command.
