CNN Panel Erupts as Democrats Cry Bigotry Over El Sayed’s Full Name [WATCH]

CNN NewsNight descended into a shouting match Monday after Democrats and media allies accused Republicans of stoking religious prejudice simply by using Michigan Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El Sayed’s full name.

The dispute quickly became a showcase for cable news outrage, ideological deflection, and frantic crosstalk.

With guest host Jon Berman moderating, the panel examined Senator Tim Scott’s defense of a Republican advertisement portraying El Sayed as a dangerous candidate.

The advertisement identifies the far left politician by his full name, Abdulrahman Mohamed El Sayed.

Scott was asked whether the advertisement was intended to remind voters that El Sayed is Muslim, but the South Carolina Republican rejected that suggestion and noted that people sometimes use his full name.

Berman then quipped, “I have never heard Tim Scott referred to as Timothy Eugene in a campaign ad.”

Niall Stanage, an Irish journalist and associate editor at The Hill, angrily dismissed Scott’s explanation, saying, “I don’t know how [Scott] says that with a straight face, honestly.”

Conservative radio host Jason Rantz responded with a sharp dose of sarcasm, saying, “People didn’t know he was Muslim until they said his full name.”

Democratic strategist Yemisi Egbewole pointed out that El Sayed still must win over moderate Michigan voters.

That is hardly a minor concern, since his agenda includes government controlled health care, eliminating ICE, ending American assistance to Israel, and imposing additional taxes on wealthy Americans.

Stanage argued that Representative Haley Stevens, the more moderate candidate defeated by El Sayed, would have faced her own political challenges.

He claimed she would have needed to repair Democratic support among Michigan’s large Arab American population because of anger over the Biden administration’s handling of the war in Gaza.

Jesse Arm, who leads external affairs at the conservative Manhattan Institute, quickly interrupted with a blunt assessment, saying, “No, she would have less work to do because she’d have all the moderates working for her!”

That obvious point did little to slow the panel’s growing ideological pileup.

Stanage then accused the Biden administration of ignoring human rights while providing weapons to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Rantz erupted, “It always goes back to the Jews!” as the conversation veered from Michigan voters into familiar accusations involving Israel, Gaza, and American Jewish political organizations.

Rantz argued that El Sayed regularly invokes AIPAC because he wants the campaign centered on Jewish influence and Israel.

Stanage defended his criticism of the organization by pointing to its support for Israel’s conservative government, prompting Arm to mock the Irish journalist’s intense focus on Palestine.

Stanage fired back, “Because we don’t like people militarily subjugating and occupying people!”

With the panelists talking over one another, Berman stepped in and gave each participant only 10 seconds to explain what Michigan voters actually care about.

Arm brought the conversation back to El Sayed’s domestic agenda, warning that voters are concerned about losing their existing insurance.

“He’s going to rip away private health insurance from the 66% of Americans who have it,” Arm said, highlighting a vulnerability Democrats would rather bury beneath accusations about prejudice.

Arm also noted that Representative Rashida Tlaib, who endorsed El Sayed, participated in attacks against Stevens for accepting support connected to major corporations such as General Mills and General Motors.

He argued that Michigan voters are unlikely to embrace that brand of hostility toward businesses and employers.

Stanage insisted Republicans were trying to distract voters from El Sayed’s economic platform, particularly his support for Medicare for all and restrictions on political spending.

Arm immediately answered, “Which would eliminate private health insurance!” exposing the rather important detail hidden behind the left’s soothing campaign slogan.

Rantz pointed out that El Sayed barely survived the Democratic primary despite polling that suggested he would win by a considerably larger margin.

In his view, the close result demonstrated that voters examined El Sayed’s positions and recoiled, even before Republicans began defining him for the general electorate.

El Sayed defeated Stevens after campaigning on Medicare for all, eliminating ICE, ending United States aid to Israel, and raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires.

That platform may thrill progressive activists, but it creates a substantial opening for Republican Mike Rogers in November.

The narrow primary victory means El Sayed must now persuade many Stevens supporters to back a far more radical agenda.

Democrats can complain about Republicans using his name, but Michigan voters will eventually judge the policies attached to it, and that is the debate the left appears most desperate to avoid.
