Giffords Freaks Over Lack of DOJ Appeal in NFA Case

I keep trying to keep myself calm regarding the court’s decision on the NFA registry requirement for suppressors and short-barreled long guns. I want it to mean the end of the NFA requirements entirely, and while they’re gone for now, there’s no guarantee they won’t return down the road. I want to temper my expectations.

Still gonna SBR my home defense rifle and put a can on it, though.

However, it’s always possible that an appeal will come.

That’s not stopping Giffords from absolutely losing its mind over it.

Honestly, it’s kind of impressive just how much stupid went into a single tweet.

First, the “nearly 100 years of safety protections on silencers, short-barreled rifles and shotguns” were never about protections. The NFA was sold as a tax. At the time, anyone with the money could get a tax stamp and have whatever kind of guns they wanted. With enough money, you could defend your home with belt-fed heavy machine guns at every corner if you wanted. You could suppress them, too.

Sure, it was a response to mob violence, but there’s no evidence it actually made anyone safer. The drop in violence that followed actually started a year earlier with the end of Prohibition.

“The DOJ could have fought to keep these safeguards in place,” they follow, but let’s keep in mind that all they failed to do was meet a particular deadline to keep the stay in place. There’s no real information to tell us definitively that they’re not appealing later. They’re acting like it’s more of a done deal than the pro-gun groups who benefitted from the deadline passing.

Um…the average company in the gun industry has between 75 and 100 employees, making them small businesses. These aren’t Big Oil or Big Pharma CEOs.

In fact, Google AI tells me that Giffords has between 50 and 128 paid employees, which means they’re about the same size as the average gun company. However, they also have a lot more pull with an entire political party in Congress than, say, Daniel Defense might.

See, Giffords has to try to make this a class struggle kind of thing, because that’s all the Left understands in this day and age. They have to make it so people think “fat-cat CEOs” are buying votes and bullying politicians, and they don’t want you to know that many of these CEOs are suburban moms and dads who are your next-door neighbors.

Sure, there are some big companies out there, but most aren’t them, and many of those who are benefiting from this decision don’t have the pull to pressure the White House to do jack in and of themselves.

What they do have, though, are legions of people who value the Second Amendment and who wanted this. If there’s no appeal made, it’ll be because the White House is listening to people like me, not some nebulous group of CEOs that only exists in the Giffords fever-dream.

But hey, keep being Giffords, Giffords.
