As Cam noted last week, all indications are that we’re set for yet another historic drop in the violent crime rate. This is very important if for no other reason than it disproves the anti-gun talking point that went around after Bruen that with more people carrying, there would be more arguments that would escalate into violent confrontations.
That just hasn’t happened.
Unfortunately, it seems that part of the reason we haven’t seen anti-gunners backpedal is that they just haven’t gotten the news that we’re safer than ever.
Students should never have to fear gun violence in a place where they go to learn, grow, and build their futures.

Yes, I see this was in response to an incident on Virginia State University’s campus. Honestly, that looks like a gang thing that just happened at and around the university, which means gun laws were going to be violated no matter what, but that’s kind of irrelevant. Virginia just passed a slew of gun control laws, anyway.
What we need to focus on is the “ever-growing public health epidemic” that is actually decreasing at historic rates.
Because wow. Just…wow.
Talk about stupid takes.
When the numbers back them up, they cite the numbers. When the numbers don’t, they just pretend they don’t exist. This is the way of the anti-gunner.
While I’ll agree we’ve got a long way to go still, especially with so many judges just letting violent offenders walk with probation or suspended sentences, the fact that our crime rates dropped massively last year and are doing it again in 2026 is an important point, and one worthy of discussion. The question is, though, how can we discuss it when the other side refuses to acknowledge it even happened?
I try to make it a point not to stick my head in the sand. I don’t ignore inconvenient data. I might debunk studies, but if they’re well-constructed, I shouldn’t be able to do that. I don’t ignore things that undermine my position. I address them.
Sandy Hook Promise and other gun control organizations clearly take a different approach. For them, inconvenient information might as well be the latest Romantasy book at Amazon; it’s easily dismissed and doesn’t matter in the least unless they want it to matter to them.
My question for them, though, is that if they’ll ignore the inconvenient truths, why should we pay attention to literally anything they insist matters? If their entire position is clearly about cherry-picking data and ignoring everything else, why should they be taken seriously by anyone, much less those of us who are fundamentally against their entire premise?
The short answer is that we shouldn’t.
I already said that I didn’t care about the numbers because my rights are still my rights. I said that a while back, and I, at least, stand by it.
Will they stand up and admit they don’t care about the violence; they just want to restrict our rights because they see it as the first step toward total civilian disarmament?
Somehow, I doubt it.
