Kathy Griffin publicly called out longtime friend Rosie O’Donnell after she was not invited to appear during O’Donnell’s week guest hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Griffin addressed the situation in an Instagram Reel on Wednesday, admitting that discussing her disappointment felt awkward.

She told followers that she considered them friends and wanted to be honest about how the situation affected her.

“I’m just going to come out and say it. Are you ready? It’s embarrassing to say, but I have to tell you guys because we’re friends,” the comedian began.

Griffin then directly explained why she was upset, saying, “My feelings are really hurt that I was not invited to Rosie’s week of ‘Jimmy Kimmel [Live].’”

At the same time, Griffin acknowledged that O’Donnell “may have no say” over which guests are booked for the program.

Still, she described the absence of an invitation as a major disappointment because fans and friends had expected her to participate.

According to Griffin, she began receiving messages and calls from people who knew about her friendship with O’Donnell.

They wanted to know which night she would appear and whether her involvement might be kept as a surprise.

Some people also wondered whether Griffin and O’Donnell would perform a sketch or have an interview.

The growing number of questions led Griffin to become “kind of excited” about the possibility of what she described as “a really cool moment.”

However, the anticipated appearance never materialized.

Griffin said the moment passed as O’Donnell’s hosting week continued without her joining the show.

Despite feeling left out, Griffin made clear that she still supported O’Donnell’s opportunity.

She encouraged her followers to watch the program and cheer for her longtime friend throughout the week.

“I just think it’s a tricky situation because I’m having all kinds of the feels. I will watch every night and cheer her on, of course,” Griffin concluded in the Reel.

Griffin also discussed the matter during Wednesday’s episode of her “Talk Your Head Off” podcast.

She claimed she recently had an opportunity to catch up with O’Donnell during a flight to Los Angeles and told her that she would love to appear as a guest.

O’Donnell did not appear pleased that Griffin had taken the issue public through her podcast.

Responding to the post, O’Donnell said Griffin should have called her and confirmed that she did not select the guests.

Several social media users agreed that Griffin should have handled her disappointment privately, particularly given the pair’s longstanding friendship.

Their criticism focused on her decision to bring the matter before the public rather than speaking directly with O’Donnell.

“We love Kathy. We love Rosie. We want Kathy to talk to Rosie about the feels, not us,” one person wrote in response to the public callout.

Another commenter was more pointed, writing, “This sounds like u could’ve sent her a text message if you’re friends.

Taking it to the internet to capitalize off her moment is so tacky.”

Griffin and O’Donnell have been friends for decades, and Griffin acknowledged their sisterly relationship during her podcast.

She also stressed that disagreements can happen between people who share close personal or professional bonds.

“We’re like sisters, and everybody knows sisters fight, sisters and brothers fight. Best friends fight, relatives, co-workers fight. And we’re not even fighting.”
