15-Year-Old Shoots Schoolmate in Gun-Controlled California

You don’t need me to remind you just how anti-gun California is. Officials there seem dedicated to reminding you at every opportunity. I’d love to say that they’re doing it against the will of the voters, but the reality is that the majority wants just that. It’s the best example of why the Electoral College is a good thing I’ve ever seen.

But despite that anti-gun agenda and the reams of laws restricting guns, it doesn’t seem to do much.

Like, say, stop a 15-year-old from shooting a schoolmate.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and gang participation in connection to a shooting Friday night at Independence High School, Bakersfield police said.

A 17-year-old boy died of his wounds from the shooting that took place at the Independence High School campus just yards from where a football game was being played with hundreds of people at the stadium.

Police officials said the 15-year-old was taken into custody in the 7500 block of Stockdale Highway. According to police, the 15-year-old suspect and 17-year-old victim knew one another. It “was not a random act of violence,” police said in a statement Saturday.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from the Kern High School District, Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the Independence High School campus on Old River Road just after 8 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but died later from his wounds.

Now, as for the shooter, let’s note that this is a 15-year-old, someone who is too young to buy a gun lawfully in any state, and as the parent of a 14-year-old, I doubt anyone would imagine a kid that young is a legal adult in the first place.

Plus, California has universal background checks anyway, so it shouldn’t matter how mature he looks.

Allegedly.

Anyway, what we have is a kid who killed another kid in school in the most anti-gun state in the country. How does this happen?

Well, note the other suspicion leveled against the alleged killer? Gang participation.

That actually tracks, because gang members are notoriously short-tempered, being part of an honor culture that demands retribution be dealt to those who offer insult, and who think that means shooting someone who isn’t in a position to shoot back. And they have no qualms about trading guns back and forth, sometimes even maintaining a “library” of guns that members can access as desired.

They have no respect for any laws, neither man’s nor God’s. Killing is trivial to them, and so is breaking gun laws.

So yeah, it completely tracks that the gun laws did nothing here because they do nothing to target the people most in need of being targeted, if anyone.

Couple that with the fact that the alleged killer knew good and well he’d never face immediate armed resistance, and there was zero reason to even blink when the time came for him to pull that trigger. That’s not good for anyone, but that’s the world gun controllers apparently want all of us to live in, especially when you consider the wrist-slap sentences some of these violent people get.

I figure that, if convicted, this kid will have his videogame console taken away and receive a stern talking to, but nothing else.
