Video: The Idiocy of Gun-Free Zones

Lately, Facebook has been filling my feed with leftist jackwagons saying really stupid stuff. Granted, some of this has turned out to provide fodder to write about, so I guess it’s not all bad. Still, I’d like a little less of the anti-gun echo chamber in my feed. Luckily, for once, Facebook provided.

It’s a really good explanation of just how dumb gun-free zones actually are.

I mean, isn’t that what anti-gunners seem to think happens? A couple of heavily armed men approach, nefarious intentions obvious, but then they see the gun-free zone sign and suddenly go, “Well, crap. No violence today.”

That’s absolutely idiotic. Anyone with half a brain knows that someone ready to kill or rob isn’t worried about the frivolous charge of having a gun in a gun-free zone.

But the people inside? The very people who might want to have a gun on their person in case these two characters were real and not dissuaded by a sign? Their guns are in their car. Unattended. Because the law says they have to, basically.

Think about it for a second. 

Just looking at this video makes it obvious how dumb the whole thing looks. No one sees this happening in real life. So we all acknowledge that the bad guys will ignore the sign.

We also can all acknowledge that the good guys largely won’t.

Meanwhile, we also know that the reason so many people leave guns in their cars — the same cars that get broken into and the guns stolen out of them, by the way — is because of the signs.

So criminals are empowered to enter and rob the place of business and kill everyone if they want, and no one can lawfully be in a position to do anything about it, or they can be empowered to go out into the parking lot and break into vehicles looking for guns.

Every part of this benefits the bad guy while providing absolutely no safety to the general public.

Look, if a business doesn’t want me to have a gun on the premises, fine. I’m actually OK with them having the authority to do this, if they so desire. I want to know who doesn’t want my business and who wants me to be killed since they can’t protect me. I’d like for them to be held liable if their decision results in me being injured or killed, but it should be their call just the same.

But no part of me thinks it’s a wise decision, either by the state or by the businesses in question, and this video highlights part of why.

It’s kabuki theater. It’s nothing more than a way to look like you care without having to actually understand what you supposedly care about. It’s cosplaying as security, but it’s about as useful as a foam sword at the Battle of Agincourt.

We see why. This illustrates it, and it’s not the first medium to make this point in a similar way. This just does it in a slightly more hilarious way.

And since reels or shorts or TikToks are how a lot of people consume content, maybe it’ll sink in with some folks.
