The video describes an emergency Supreme Court dispute over whether Michigan must place a citizenship-verification and voter-ID constitutional amendment on the November ballot. It says Americans for Citizen Voting collected more than 700,000 signatures, but Michigan officials found the petition fell three signatures short after a sampling review and rejected some voter affidavits used to rehabilitate disputed signatures. The petitioners argue Michigan violated due process and equal protection by relying on inaccessible signature records, giving them too little time to respond, and then rejecting affidavits using the same records. Michigan responds that it provided fair procedures and that ballot-initiative circulation is not the same as casting a vote, while the petitioners invoke Meyer v. Grant to argue petition circulation is core political speech and that the state created the emergency by delaying review.
